I've got a strange problem with my new Z390 Taichi Ultimate board, with a Core i5 9600K CPU. I'm running Win 10 Pro 1809. I just put the thing together and installed a couple days ago.

It's crazy. The system hangs hard, requiring a reset, using EasyBCD or Visual BCD. It will even hang sometimes using bcdedit command line. I use these to tweak the boot menu settings, of course.

VisualBCD will hang the system upon startup. EasyBCD will start usually, but will sometimes hang on a Save operation. The system hangs hard. GUI completely freezes, no mouse, no keyboard. Numlock and Capslock will work, toggling the little lights a time or two and then they stop. This requires a reset.

So I was wondering if anyone here has any idea what this could be. I've got a 32GB Optane module installed with the Optane Accelerator. I disabled that, but the problem still persisted.

   Thanks for any suggestions.

Oh some additional weirdness. With Optane, with the SATA is put into "RST Premimum" mode for the Optan, Windows wouldn't recognize one of the hard drives on the main SATA ports. The BIOS would see it, but Windows wouldn't -- wouldn't show up in Device Manager. Disabling Optane and turning it back to AHCI mode and Windows would recognize the drive.

I just put that drive on the the "A1" SATA port, which uses the non-Intel controller, whatever it is. Windows recognizes it just fine on that port. It's an older drive, and I wonder if that had something to do with it.

I don't know if that's related to the BCD editor problem or not.

Yes, I installed the Optane accelerator per the instructions. It appears to work fine -- noticeably speeds up booting and other things. I'm thinking it's just some problem with the older hard drive, which works fine on the A1 port.
