Hello,

i am missing the Wake On Lan feature in the BIOS. Currently i am using 1.20 and i cannot find it anywhere. As soon as i check for a internet flash update i have a configuration option (intel nic) in the bios but the config menu is broken.

This is a problem if you use it for a media center pc ... please fix it ;)

Martin

WOL as a UEFI/BIOS option is not able to deal with the complexity and variations of drivers and OS differences so is no longer used.

When you said the Intel driver configuration menu is broken, do you mean it cannot seem to get WOL working?

I'm guessing you're using Windows 10? Are you using the LAN driver version 20.2 from your board's download page, or the board's driver disk?

Intel is having problems with their LAN drivers and Windows 10. There are some functions that are simply no longer working.

The best I can do for you is suggest trying this driver download from Intel. Please read the Release Notes file, the link is on the top right side of the screen. You'll see that it includes support for the various I219 chips, which are just an interface to the network capability of the Z170 chipset. About a third of the way into the file is a discussion of WOL issues and fixes, which I highly suggest you read:

I am using openelec (linux) with kernel 4.1.  What has WOL todo with the driver of the OS since WOL is used before the os loads any driver ? I have a broadwell and a hasswell nuc that work great with openelec. My workstation (Linux, Z97 Pro4) and gaming rig (Windows 10, Z97 Extreme4)  are also working well with WOL.

But the new skylake mainboard doesn't have the feature to configure WOL in bios at all. The only option i see is enable/disable PXE boot (boot from lan).

But as soon as i try to update the bios via internet i get a new option called "Intel I219V ..."

As soon as i enter the option i could configure it but the menu seems to be broken.

Btw. is WOL a advertised feeature of this board.

cheers
Martin

I just tried WOL on my Z170 Gaming-ITX/ac with BIOS 1.20 and it worked just fine. I'm using Win10.

The driver is responsible for enabling the wake event and the filters in the LAN PHY. This configuration is stored in the LAN NVRAM - that's how WOL works before the OS is loaded. But the driver has to configure WOL at least once for it to work.
