Hello,
I have built a few PCs before, PC troubleshooting for over a decade, and repaired a few laptops. I searched here and reddit for solutions, but I'm still having issues with my new build. Here is the build: CPU: AMD - Threadripper 1950X 3.4 GHz 16-Core Processor CPU Cooler: EVGA - CLC 280 113.5 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler Motherboard: ASRock - Fatal1ty X399 Professional Gaming ATX TR4 Motherboard Memory: G.Skill - Trident Z RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory Storage: Samsung - 860 Evo 1 TB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive Storage: Western Digital - Black 6 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Case: Cooler Master - MasterCase H500 ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: Thermaltake - Toughpower Grand RGB 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit GPU: SAPPHIRE Radeon RX Vega 64 DirectX 12 21275-03-20G 8GB 2048-Bit HBM2 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support Video Card I put everything together and the power button (both case and mobo) does not do anything. No twitch of power, fans, or lights. I triple checked all cable connections (following the install guide), cleared CMOS, and checked the RAM/CPU/GPU seating. The only way to power on the computer is by removing RAM from the B slots. Once the system has powered up, the power and reset buttons work normally and the system runs fine. I can even restart the machine (physical button or OS), but if I power down, I have to remove a stick of RAM again to boot up. My thoughts are a short on the motherboard or just a plain old bad mobo. I have been searching and searching forums but most posts talk about systems that ran and now don't. I appreciate any feedback or additional troubleshooting steps to try. Thanks! |

You've put together a nice machine. I am sorry that you have some challenges.
I'm assuming you have already tried swapping which dimm you place in slots A2 and B2? to see if the issue follows the slot or the dimm, and also if you had any other DDR4 dimms you have tried those? or tried using the dimms your using in this build on another board? You mentioned checking the seating of CPU but have you removed and re-seated it? I would want to rule out my memory as the issue first as it's the easiest problem to resolve. Also might consider pulling everything out of the chassis and doing the old bench build on the motherboard box and just connecting the minimal amount needed - mobo, ram, cpu/cooler and GPU I hope things work out for you. |
