    Posted: 13 Mar 2019 at 12:43pm
My DDR4 has an XMP profile to run at 3000MHz at 1.35 volts.

After I boot (linux), dmidecode says the ram is:

Configured Voltage: 1.2 V

Is it a negotiated voltage?

Hi
that's the voltage of the base jdec profile.
In dmidecode output you should also have far less then 3000mhz ram clock.

DDR4 has a couple more profile (xmp1 and xmp2) overclocked and overvolted tested by the manufacturer.

If you don't change the ram profile in bios, it defaults to jdec 2400@1.2volts.

When you change the ram profile in bios then it sets the the new frequency and the voltage to 1.35.

For istance, mine are:
JEDEC: DDR4-2400 CL17-17-17 @1.2V
XMP Profile #1: DDR4-3200 CL16-18-18 @1.35V
XMP Profile #2: DDR4-3000 CL15-17-17 @1.35V

My ddr4 only has one XMP 2.0 Profile and no other options except auto.
I changed the ram profile in the bios to the 3000 one and it says it is 1.35V but dmidecode says:
Handle 0x0015, DMI type 17, 40 bytes
Memory Device
        Array Handle: 0x000C
        Error Information Handle: 0x0014

Why would the manufacturer not fill in the "Manufacturer"?

Who is this, the case?
The motherboard can't know what case it is going in?

you found lazy manufacturers

mine ddr4 @1.35v in bios from dmidecode

Handle 0x0017, DMI type 17, 40 bytes
Memory Device
     Array Handle: 0x000E
     Error Information Handle: 0x0016
     Total Width: 64 bits

     Form Factor: DIMM
     Set: None
     Locator: DIMM 1
     Bank Locator: P0 CHANNEL A
     Type: DDR4
     Type Detail: Synchronous Unbuffered (Unregistered)
     Speed: 3200 MT/s
     Manufacturer: Kingston
     Serial Number: --omissis--
     Asset Tag: Not Specified
     Part Number: KHX3200C16D4/8GX
     Rank: 1
     Configured Memory Speed: 1600 MT/s
     Minimum Voltage: 1.2 V
     Maximum Voltage: 1.2 V
     Configured Voltage: 1.2 V

it seems dmidecode doesn't read the real voltage but the one hard coded in the ram

https://linux.die.net/man/8/dmidecode
Quote dmidecode is a tool for dumping a computer's DMI (some say SMBIOS ) table contents in a human-readable format. This table contains a description of the system's hardware components, as well as other useful pieces of information such as serial numbers and BIOS revision. Thanks to this table, you can retrieve this information without having to probe for the actual hardware. While this is a good point in terms of report speed and safeness, this also makes the presented information possibly unreliable.

It got
Configured Clock Speed: 1500 MT/s
right so it should get
Configured Voltage: 1.2 V
right.
Maybe the motherboard doesn't set something it should.
Oh well.

Quote More often than not, information contained in the DMI tables is inaccurate, incomplete or simply wrong.
