64 GB RAM Recommendation on X399 Taichi, 2950X? |

I'm looking to build a X399 Taichi with a 2950X processor. I'm looking for 64 GB recommendations.
The [URL=https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAG7R8GD5949&Description=F4-3200C14D-16GTZR&cm_re=F4-3200C14D-16GTZR-_-9SIAG7R8GD5949-_-Product]GSkill F4-3200C14D-16GTZR[/URL] looks great, but it's not on the motherboard's supported list. That CAS 14 sounds wonderful, but I've been out of the loop on RAM for so long, I'm unsure what matters anymore. The vast majority of work done with this system will be as a programming workstation with large data sets, and a little gaming. Any advice appreciated. |

GTRZ series are made for Intel.
GTRZX on the other hand are tailored for AMD CPUs. No matter what the QVL says you have a great chance to get a fast RAM with the click of a button, i.e. XMP profile. I strongly advice you to go with an AMD-optimized RAM, especially if you will do 64GB. Flare X are also a good choice if you don't want all the RGB bling. Aim for 14 or 16 CAS latency since your build will be mostly latency-limited. There are now some good G.Skill kits @3200MT/s and 14 or 16 CAS. Hope this helps. |

X399 Taichi is a nice mobo a d 2950WX is a monster of a CPU.
Flare X is the de-facto standard for TR4/AM4 CPUs. I personally run a few of those is seversl builds, but never in kits of 8 (AM4 boards only). I believe you will able to run 8 sticks of those. Here is the 'but' part - 8 sticks come hard on the memory controller even of Zen+ CPU, which 2950WX is. Sad as it is, depending on your mileage, you may have to dial down the RAM speed a bit, e.g. 3000 or 2933. Zen+ are guaranteed to run 2666 for all channels, so maybe a small SoC voltage bump can get you in the high ballpark. Depending on your will, skill and luck you may even reach top speed with some tweaking. For your workloads you won't see a measurable benefit between 2933 and 3200. In rendering - absolutely, because it's bandwidth-limited, while you're more latency-limited. Also, one of the mods here has a similar setup. You may want to wait a bit and hear his opinion as well. |

Edit: Zen+ should run 2933 out of the box. 2666 is for the first gen, e.g. 1950X.

Xhue is on point. Steve from Hardware Unboxed had issues running his 8 modules higher than 2666 on a 1950x, (also on an X399 Taichi) even though they were Ryzen certified kits. The 2950x should fair a bit better with it's updated and refined memory controller. I wish I could test it out myself but I don't have 8 modules laying about to put in my system at the moment. I can say I have no problems running 2 modules at 3600 and 4 at 3200 on my lower end X399 Phantom Gaming 6 with a 2950x.
If speed is critical you are better off going with 4 16gb modules, 3200 CL14 should be fairly easy to do with Ryzen certified RAM. |

Problem is finding 16GB CAS 14 modules that (hopefully) work on that board. I'll keep you all posted. |

Excellent find!
It seems even they want to play it safe and list only 2933MT/s for Zen+. Truth to be told, you won't notice or benefit from 3200 in most cases, so CL14 @ 2933 is excellent choice. Please do keep us updated once you finish your build. |

Any ideas if this will be fine: https://www.gskill.com/product/165/170/1562830516/F4-3200C16Q-64GFXFlare-XDDR4-3200MHz-CL16-18-18-38-1.35V64GB-(4x16GB) (this one if you check the QVL it doesnt have my mb ASROCK X399 Taichi) it is 1/3 cheaper than the 2933 16CL Kit. (i do not know why the faster memory costs lesser) (this one if you check the QVL it does have my mb ASROCK X399 Taichi) and also any ideas how much of a difference will the 16CL will be worse than the 14 Cls (performance percentage?) (I will be using the machine primarily for dynamic simulations in graphics softwares like sidefx houdini and for GPU renderingon Octane/ Redshift 3D ) thanks in advance m. |
