I have had similar issues with my X399 system, windows updates keep breaking things.
The problem was windows in my case though. Microsoft pushes an update and I wake
up to a hung PC that keeps freezing. Then I have to go into safe mode, install the latest
AMD all in one driver and reboot. Time and again the same story.

I used a tool to turn off automatic updates and have been fine ever since. Now
I periodically install the latest all in one driver first then update manually
and not a single problem since. On the rest of my systems I use linux because I
am sick of Windows breaking things.

99 times out of 100 it's because a windows update requires a new all in one driver,
at least that has been my experience. BIOS updates should not be necessary for
a working system to support an OS update. I say this to save you the headache
of switching out your board only to have the same issues all over again.

Based on your description I highly doubt a BIOS update will help. If a windows
update keeps breaking things then the issue is 100% caused by the update and
MS doesn't care. If you have not already tried, download and install the latest
AMD All in One driver and see if that resolves the crashing/freezing.

Good luck, hope this helps.
