OK, ASRock has offered to RMA the MB after me owning it for almost 2 years - I can't fault them for that. In fact that is quite lenient.

But it looks like I need to send it first - so I would be out of a system for a while. If that is the case, I am buying a x470 from someone else and selling the new MB. I cannot be without a main system that long. (Hours is bad, days unlivable, I use this box 10-14 hours a day.)

But hey - updating the BIOS should not impact a working system.   So what if I want to use a new processor in the future, why would that break the one I am using - no wait - it did not break that.

So right now, I am booting from SSD on SATA 1. That is working fine, but the performance difference is very noticeable. I went from seconds to 10s of seconds for everything on the OS disk.

Even if I need to upgrade processors, tell me - that may be an exciting option. Can we say R7 2700!!!!!

And no response from my query as to fixing the M.2 boot issue.   I will give it another day - but then I am probably back to Asus/MSI as I have had zero issues with several of their products. Though right now Gigabyte is cheapest with great reviews. (x470 and WiFi is a must)

For RAID, the disk is set to ACHI (or something like that where the other choice is RAID). I do have a mirror, but I let Windows take care of that.

I am very disappointed.   This setup has worked damn'd near perfect since the build. But - updates to the BIOS are critical for a long "use life" and ASRock has failed that measure - so far.

I believe M2_1 as it's labeled the "Ultra M.2"
The only other PCI slot being used in for the PCIex16 for the Vega 56 GPU at the top.

And a little more data -
My original issue was the Vega 56 crashing after reboot. That is also resolved. The card works very well.

But, I am not sure it's the fresh W10 install or the BIOS update or both. My guess at this time, is fresh windows install.

So everything is great, except booting from the Ultra M.2 slot. I really want that performance.

We'll see what ASRock says tomorrow.

But I disagree. After playing with this for 3 days, here is what I surmise.
The "00" error is a catch bag, indicating that an error occurred and the CPU died.

But here is my update:

After several reboots, the NVME disk is now seen by the bios (why did it not just be there on boot one?) but I cannot boot from it. Tried many different scenarios but - no go.

I do have a SSD that I put in SATA 1 and its working fine as a bootable disk.

Right now all storage, GPU and other peripherals are working as expected. The only limitation, and its a big one for me, is I cannot boot from the "Ultra M.2" slot.

ASRock has replied, and I have asked about how to resolve the boot issue.
More when I know more.

00 is CPU related. Not good.

Update: Using an SSD I reinstalled windows and proceeding to setup everything. After some tinkering with Diskpart.exe I cleaned all the partitions the Windows installer left behind on the NVME disk, created a simple partition, and formatted it.

ASRock did contact me and will be offering a RMA to replace the MB. But as everything but booting from the Ultra M.2 slot seems to work. I have asked for a solution to that issue.

also - I still need to test the original issue of the new Sapphire Vega 56 Pulse causing the BIOS to crash leaving the blinking "00" error.

From another thread, going into the UEFI, Boot, CSM and setting "Launch Storage OpROM Policy" option to UEFI Only. This allowed windows to start the install, but after reboot it can no longer find the system it just installed on.

A little more info.? As I could see the NVME disk in BIOS after several reboots, i decided to just reinstall windows.? But Windows error'd out saying it could not install on the disk (it could see it).

The error: Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS.

In storage it shows enabled as far as I can tell.

OK: Update
The BIOS now shows the NVME drive (I did nothing) so I figure, try reinstalling windows. But Windows says it cannot install windows to that drive. So right now I do not have the ability to use NVME.

This is so frustrating. It appears that the BIOS update, disabled being able to boot form NVME - but hey, that is a key feature.
