Just upgraded to a 3700x, flashed to the latest BIOS (5.60) and now it will not post with two sticks of ram installed. These are the same two sticks that were working with a 2700x just this morning.
Now the ram is not listed on the compatibility chart, but it is listed as being Ryzen compatible by AMD in the original PDF and has been working for a few years (had a 1700 before upgrading to 2700x). It's G-Skill F4-3200C14D-16GTZ and from what I can tell the only difference is that mine is not RGB (the compatible version is F4-3200C14D-16GTZRX). Now I was reading in another thread where someone was having some issues with memory and the 3700x, but I can't seem to find any other information regarding this. Is this a known problem that the vendors or AMD is working to fix? I'm a bit miffed because I just assumed that if there was a known issue that it would noted on the BIOS download page or it just wouldn't be released. I've also tried clearing the CMOS, making sure that XMP profile was not loaded and upping the voltage to 1.35V manually. |

Your RAM should work without problems. But the full functionality needs some manual assistance.
With one stick installed, use the XMP profile, maybe with a lower frequency, save the settings and shutdown. Then insert the second stick and look if the system works with both. This procedure i had to use with my RAM often after a bios update. Sad to say, that you maybe have to repeat that if further RAM setting tests require a CMOS reset. I suggest using the DRAM calculator, at least for looking under Help->OC statistics->ZEN2 where you can find some examples. You can try to use the save settings for your RAM. If it does not work, try the settings for 3200MHz with one or two clock steps lower in the bios. Also look at: https://www.overclock.net/forum/11-amd-motherboards/1627407-asrock-x370-taichi-overclocking-thread-588.html |

Thanks for the response. I was finally able to get it to boot using the XMP profile after updating the BIOS to the latest beta version (5.67) in the link that you provided. It makes no sense that the "safe" timings wouldn't work, but the XMP would....but I'm not complaining.
A couple of things to point out that I went through. I had actually tried what you suggested with the older BIOS, but it wouldn't work so I came here. It did work with the newer BIOS, but....I think that when I loaded the XMP profile and then lowered the clock that it threw out the XMP settings so it may have worked with 5.60. Basically I may not have been using the XMP profile when I thought that I was. Either way I appreciate the advice because I was ready to start pulling ram from another system and may have been looking at another MB today. You saved me a lot of hassle. |
