So I joined the club of Aqua owners, receiving a very nice plastic card and a welcome letter in a silver envelope.

Apart from that what I have received honestly is not the most pleasant of user experiences: I've got multiple severe issues with my Aqua, the worst one being the NVMe thing:

I've got an M.2 NVMe SSD plugged in the upper M.2 slot: ADATA SX8200 Pro 1 TB. Note: this one is similar to the smaller one listed in the Storage QVL.

It takes around 5-6 cold starts (power unplugged, warm reset is not enough) for my SSD to get recognized. Sometimes I'm stuck at POST with code A0, sometimes the POST code segment display just goes black and I don't get any video signal at all.

Tried BIOS versions 1.60 and L1.62 (beta), no luck.

I often read posts suggesting to turn down M.2 PCIe link speed to Gen 3.0 (since the SSD is not PCIe 4.0 compatible). But there seems to not be such an option in the BIOS...

(Neither is there one for turning off the RGB lighting when the system is OFF...)

This is ridiculous. Is that what you get when buying a $999 motherboard?

I have #915

It's a bit discouraging to read your report, and even worse to see no replies after a month.

Have you solved the issue?

TL;DR: Nope, I've had two of them now which both caused major issues and the third one is on its way.

Here's the full version of how the story went on:

I replaced the ADATA SSD by a Crucial P1 which is on the official Storage QVL. Didn't change anything.

Then I reached out to official ASRock support as well as to the store I bought the board from. ASRock said I should RMA the board, which I did.

Got a new one and had less issues (most notably the pixel artifacts I had went away) but the NVMe SSD issue was still there. Furthermore video was not stable at all, often crashing the entire system at Windows 10 login.

I then bought new memory sticks (G.Skill Trident Z neo) just to make sure it's not my old DDR4-2666 Corsair Dominator Platinum that causes all this. Didn't help.

I even replaced the GPU by a sameple (same card) from a very helpful store. No luck.

Yesterday I've put the new AQUA in the mail back to the online store. Unfortunately they don't allow me to switch, yet. By law they have the right to do two repairs before accepting refund or switch to a different model.

And that's exactly what I'm aming for. I've had enough from this damn $1k ASRock board:

- NVMe issues
- GPU unstable as hell
- translation issues in BIOS
- entirely undocumented settings in BIOS (e.g. that PCIe link amplifier)
- RGB LEDs that shine all night while the system is powered off

The entire product leaves me with a very bad feeling in regard of quality. I wouldn't want to have this for $500, but for $999 it's just ridiculous.

Sorry for the rant, but I've spent so many ours and tears now, I'm through with it. All I want is to get a board from ASUS or (my current aim) a Gigabyte Aorus Xtreme...

I sincerely hope you won't run into trouble like this. I've heard from other people who haven't had a single issue with the board. Maybe I'm doing something very wrong.

I am sorry to hear about the issues.

I am a water-cooling enthusiast and I wanted the best I could get for an AMD AM4 platform. I have not used my Aqua yet. It's still in the box as I am waiting for a 3950x I ordered to show up.

Because I live in the Yukon, and Newegg.ca is quite frankly screwing us northerners with shipping (they treat us like a foreign country for shipping) my Aqua came out to $1,680.09 Canadian with shipping.

I think that for a flagship motherboard at this price point, issues like that are unacceptable. These boards should be thoroughly quality tested before shipping. Especially with the limited production run, getting RMAs in the future is tenuous at best.

I really did not want a x570 chipset fan so I almost got the flagship gigabyte board. The only reason I didn't was there was no monoblock yet for it, and the Aqua is beautiful to look at, and fits with my build theme perfectly.

I hope my Aqua is issue free and every bit the flagship I expect it to be.

However, anecdotally, I know you are not the only one with issues with the Aqua, and for a production run of 999 units, the ratio of problem boards seems a bit high to me.

This is rather boggling news.

My specs

Asrock X570 Aqua
AMD Ryzen 3950x
G.Skill Trident Z Royal x4 CL14 3800
Samsung 970 EVO PLUS M.2
RTX 2070 Super Ventuc OC w/ bykski waterblock

I bought my Aqua in October 2019, and waited for the 3950x until mid December. The first thing I did was updated the bios to 1.71 beta for Enthusiast overclocking. I had zero issues with the board.

I'm currently leading in 3DMark with the 3950x https://www.3dmark.com/newsearch#advanced?test=spy%20P&cpuId=2546&gpuId=&gpuCount=0&deviceType=ALL&memoryChannels=0&country=&scoreType=physicsScore&hofMode=false&showInvalidResults=false
