The simple answer is that it prevents a lot of users pointlessly updating their
BIOS and having issues (like bricked boards). "Not Recommended" simply means "of no real benefit". Most often an update won't contain any optimization for older CPUs, in which case there is more risk for users of older CPUs that an optimization meant for a new CPU may break something on older ones. 99.9% of the time the updates work absolutely fine but bare in mind that 0.01% of all the AM4 boards sold is still a significant number of RMAs. I believe since this message has been on product pages it has cut down the number of bricked boards caused by bad BIOS flashes etc. Less work for ASRock's tech support department but more importantly, less headaches for their consumers. |

Have you tried with current BIOS (3.9?)
Supported CPU's for thisboard go all the way back to AM1 so certainly it was designed to operate with CPU prior to Ryzen 3000. Your CPU appears in the list of supported CPUs. https://www.asrock.com/support/cpu.asp?s=AM4 3.6 and 3.9 appear to be Matisse CPU specific updates. You don't have that CPU so it seems you would not want 3.9 BIOS Update. It's possible your Mainboard was returned and resold so someone else updated the BIOS before you got it?. If your CPU needs earlier BIOS and you cannot back flash it, you might need to return it and get another one. |

Bought a B450M Pro4 motherboard, support page states "*ASRock do NOT recommend updating this BIOS if Pinnacle, Raven, Summit or Bristol Ridge CPU is being used on your system" for bios version 3.9--which is what it shipped with. It won't let me flash to an earlier version. I bought the board to use with a Ryzen 5 2600. Why is it not recommended? Why ship with a bios not recommended for anything earlier than the 3000 series?
