Greetings,

First system I have built in a while and wow things have changed.

I can't get video out of any of the ports on the graphics card. I've tried every port on the back of the card. I've tried different external cables/monitors, power supply port/cable. There's only one PCIe 16 slot and it's in there. Reseated, examined the pins and the slot, don't see any damage.

I do not have a speaker yet, nor did the board come with a CMOS jumper. I don't have a source to cannibalize one either. Both are on their way. In the manual, it says just to short the CLRCMOS1 pins for 3 seconds. I have tried that and it didn't change anything. I found an ASRock video on youtube that mentioned jumping it, pushing and holding the power button for 10 seconds and then leaving it alone for 15 minutes. It sounds suspect, but at this point, I'll try anything.

In the meantime, I figured I would try and find definitions of the red LEDs behind the DIMM slots. I found section 2.7 of the quickstart guide. It's an interesting paragraph, but doesn't help a whole lot. Also, once the speaker does get here, I can't find the beep codes. I found a generic list and GPU is not on it. So that's what I am looking for:

1 - Meaning of the LEDs on the motherboard
2 - Where is a list of beep codes?

Thanks in advance for your time. System specs below.

Is your video card known good? Tested in another computer?

Temporarily remove the NVME and three RAM modules; see if it will POST and give video.

Hey Jake,

No, brand new out of the box. I don't have another machine with a PCIe X16 slot (thus the upgrade :) ).

Removing the components sounds like a plan. I will give that a shot as soon as I can.

Thanks for the response!

Beep codes:
https://www.asrock.com/support/faq.asp?id=286

As Jake noted, try with only 1 module of RAM, the GPU and CPU. Remove all other
devices from the system (you can just disconnect them, you don't need to remove
them from the case). Make sure both your 24pin and 8pin CPU power cables are properly
connected and that the CPU 8pin is in fact the CPU 8 pin (4+4) not a PCIe 8 pin
(6+2).

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the responses, much appreciated. Really appreciate the link to the beep codes.

I checked and made sure, I also swapped out the CPU 8 pin power cable, they're both labelled "CPU" and all 8 pins are populated. The only power cable not swapped out is the 24pin ATX cable because the power supply only came with one.

1 - So, with only one stick of RAM, in A2, I think that's correct with the 3600 processor, NVMe removed, GPU installed. The LED behavior has changed. On power on, The VGA and BOOT LEDs come on. After a few seconds, the CPU and DRAM flash a couple of times. After a few more seconds, the fans on the GPU go high and then low and the VGA and BOOT go out as well. After about 10 seconds they are all out, GPU fan on low.

2 - With everything installed, everything was the same except the end result is the VGA and BOOT LEDs stay lit solid and stay that way until system reset.

3 - With nothing installed except one stick of RAM, no GPU, no NVMe, the behavior is similar to bullet 2 above, except the BOOT LED goes out for about two seconds, then comes back on solid, and both VGA and BOOT stay lit until system reset.

Thanks again for your time and effort. The speaker will be here Thursday. Still no luck finding a jumper for the CMOS reset. Also found the sticker everyone has mentioned on other threads, it says P2.20. I know it needs to be updated, but I can't do that unless it at least boots to BIOS.

with the power off and unplugged, hit and hold the power button for a few seconds to discharge all power from the PSU and motherboard.

You can either take a flat head screw driver and touch both pins on the "CLEAR CMOS" pins .. or just pop the battery out for a few minutes .. to reset the BIOS to defaults.

..and .. if you haven't already .. if it still doesn't boot after resetting the BIOS .. try each stick of memory separately

Have you tried a different display cable?

I've tried both different power cables to the GPU and output cables to the monitor, both displayports, the HDMI port and verified the monitor is good. I've tried two different displayport cables, I know the HDMI cable is good. I do not have a DVI cable to try that output.

I haven't had a chance to check each stick of memory. I don't understand why that would work when the LEDs don't point to DRAM but I'm willing to try anything.

Thanks so much for the responses. I will keep plugging away.

try using one of the lower pcie slots to test ..............

i recently had an issue whereas the top slot was locked in bios to auto
which was clashing somehow with the gpu
using the lower pcie slot allowed a boot to bios and then changing the pcie option to forced gen3 made the top slot work

sounds crazy i know

Hey Datonyb, thanks for the response. Can you put a PCIe 16 card in a smaller slot...? I've read arguments on both sides and I am totally hesitant to modify a brand new mobo for testing purposes. Going to check and see if the smaller slots have open backs... Confidence is low though.

I am waiting for the delivery today of the speaker and the jumpers. Tomorrow the HDMI cable arrives. Going to keep trying.

Thanks again for all of the responses.
