Hello,
back again....as i've LSI MegaRaid Sas 9341-4i, seems to be compatible with vmware esxi 6....but this card is compatible with ASrock X99 WS-E? i've spoke to LSI support and they said this: as this card does not have built on-board cache, it needs to use the motherboard to cache to. That being said, if the motherboard does not support some Interrupt 15 for the PCI card slot (and another number i cant remember) then the motherboard do not caching for the RAID card and the drivers can't be loaded properly. He said typically server motherboards allows you to do this. So in this case, in order to use vmware vcenter or generally esxi 6, do you suggest me to use this raid card, or another with specific memory cache built-in, or build the raid 5 directly from X99 ws-e motherboard sata controller built-in? Thanks for all your suggestions, Best, Luca |

Meh, all things considered here(9341-4i vs on-board) I'd forgo the LSI card and build from the on-board ports.
Less complications. Now. And down the road. < id="kpm_plugin" ="application/x-KPMPlugin">

ok i've just insert the new 9240-4i card...but now in the error codes of dr.debug i see error code 62 ...in the manual (page 39) the message is: Chipset initialization error. Please press reset or clear CMOS.
I've cleared the cmos as indicated in page 31 but nothing is changed....if i try to boot....start with asrock logo and menu option...i try to push cancel button to enter the bios but the system not respond and go on...up to load the raid card...and here i see some words (lsi...model ..number) but here the system is blocked... So after i remove the raid card and i can enter into the bios...all parameters seems to be ok...what's wrong? i need to make some settings in the bios to load correctly the raid card? |

When you see the "(lsi...model ..number)" , it is asking you to press <Ctrl><H> to enter the LSI's WebBIOS config utility.
62 huh? This is time consuming but move the card among all the available PCIe slots and retry. Start at the bottom-most slot, PCIE1, and work your way up as you go. Remember, anti-static wrist strap or be darn sure you're grounded as you'll be fiddling in there a lot. Remove power etc etc each time. You know the drill. All activity wires removed from the cards J3 to trouble shoot. Not positive it really matters, but .... I've learned more of your issues at the below thread than here sadly http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2872067/building-white-box-lab-test-vmware-vsphere-essentials-kit.html |

Well if a product is sold as compatible and do not provide even basic information or a minimum of troubleshooting, if you go and also attempts to change the slot at random, I do not think it's a good or standard procedure...there are probably other issues.
In any case i've also followed was suggested to me even if sometimes i came to the same conclusion. I believe that forums exist just to exchange experiences and help each other for problems that may have already been solved by other people ... that's all. I do not like controversy ... I have a configuration problem and trying to fix it ... maybe when it will be resolved could be useful for someone else ... that's all. |

I am afraid I am at a loss as to what to suggest in your situation having no experience with that particular RAID controller. Thank you for continuously posting updates as to what you have tried and how it worked out. All I can suggest at this point is that you contact ASRock Tech support and see if they can help you resolve the issue.

ok guys good news!!
at the end of the odyssey i found the solution to myself...raid card and motherboard firmware defected....i thought to follow a certain logic procedure (adapting the firmware update procedure) and voil? now the uefi boot the raid card...now i've just built the raid only through the raid card and built the virtual volume....and during the installlation, esxi installer detect the volume for 1,3 tb correctly. case closed |
