Hey, everyone.
I've got a X370 Taichi upgraded to 6.20 BIOS. Trying to upgrade it to a 3950X however when the 3950X is installed I get no fans spinning up, no Dr Debug activity, and no fan on my Vega GPU even spinning either. HDDs are spinning up so I'm sure the PSU is coming on. I've held down the CMOS reset button in the back for ~10 seconds while everything is unplugged from system. Doesn't change anything. If I go back to the 2700X everything works again. And today I tried a second 3950X... same problem! Any ideas what could be wrong? |

i might be able to help you here
i also had the same issue x370 taichi changed from 1700 to a 3800x now i flashed bios 5.8 checked the boot all fine with 1700 changed to the 3800 and nothing......... i finally found out if i manually removed the cmos battery and power cable from wall pressed pc power gbutton for 30 secs to TOTALLY CLEAR the bios (it seems our bios reset button dosnt always clear things) then inserted ONLY ONE RAM STICK in slot a2 refit cmos battery and the pc would then start (remember it takes 1-2 mins to first boot with a cleared bios) after this i would save and exit bios refit the second ram stick in b2 and start pc again save and exit bios restart THEN SET THE RAM XMP after this the pc starts normally everytime it just that initial first boot that needs properly cleared bios reset ABND ONLY ONE STICK OF RAM at default speed hope this helps |

Yeah, taichi CLEAR cmos is not working 100%. There are various kind of bug when using ZEN-2.
Apart from datonyb type of description, My taichi bug is cannot occupy PCIE-slot-2, i.e. SSD on PCIE must be removed, then clear cmos, then power on at least once to ensure boot-loop error 33,7b,6a,b6 is gone, meaning able to see Dr.debug shows other numbers very quickly in a flash like 27, 98, etc, then OK, reinsert PCIE SSD and boot OK. I've also tried only remove PCIE SSD without clear cmos and hit power on, it will show a few more error codes then my favorite 33,7b,6a,b6, but ultimately stuck in boot loop. and I think I also tried remove PCIE SDD, clear cmos, but without power on at least one time, finally put in PCIE SDD and power on will still boot loop. It's so annoying, discourages me from trying more DDR overclocking attempts. |

Thanks for the idea. I use that computer for my job so I won't be able to monkey with it until the weekend. Will try more aggressive clearing of the CMOS by removing battery, etc. and report back.
It's an Antec EA-750 Platinum, so probably fine. As for everything else: Two M391A4G43MB1-CTD DIMMs (2x32GB Samsung M-die), a 10Gbe card in PCIE5, an Optane 32GB in M2_1, a few SATA drives, and a Vega 64 in PCIE3 (not PCIE2!). I moved the GPU to PCIE3 during this swap so I could more easily access the CPU which has a monster NH-D15 on it. Switching it back to PCIE2 is probably something worth trying too. |

I forgot to mentioned, my clear cmos problem includes removing battery not effective. I write again, removing battery does NOT clear cmos in my case. What a drag ...... Oh, 750w, no problem then I think. I used to run Vega 64 on PCIE3 like you, no lag detected. My reason is to allow Optane900p closest to CPU enjoy least latency on every program call 24/7, since GPU for game is not on 24/7. Good luck !!! |

Also, if you flash bios either same version again, or other version next time, make sure to load default, boot into windows running ddr4 at 2133mhz, then shutdown to flash your next bios and go into windows at bios default ddr4 2133mhz, finally shutdown and adjust whatever you want, taichi x370 bios is very very sensitive, especially when using Zen-2. What a headache.

I had bad luck with 6.2, suspect because I didn't load default bios before flash from 6.1, had so much instability problem, finally solved when up bios to beta 6.20A. You could give is a try. There's beta 6.20B also, some say very good ram compatibility.

Alright! Have some limited success.
I removed the CMOS battery for some time and powered on the 3950x with single 32GB Samsung M-die DIMM installed. This got me to Dr Debug code 36 but system shuts down. Replaced the 32GB DIMM with a single 8GB Samsung B-Die DIMM and it boots, great! Unfortunately replacing the 8GB DIMM with the 32GB DIMM gets me stuck at code 36 still The 32GB DIMM "just worked" with the 2700X so I'm surprised the 3950X is having trouble here. Any settings I should consider adjusting before installing the 32GB DIMM? |
