Hi

I'm looking into getting a X570 Mainboard and the Creator is one of the last two contenders for my money.

But it says it has only in total 3 USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports 2 on the back and 1 on the front.

The Competitor claims to have 7 (!) Gen 2 ports, although 2 of them are Gen 2 only with the 3xxxx line of ryzen CPU's

Sooo... those 2 ports hang directly on the CPU.

than my line of thinking is, the Creator must also have some ports connected directly to the CPU, or not?
And if so than those two ports would would also run Gen 2 with a 3xxxx line of ryzen CPU's, right?

So are my assumptions correct and the X570 Creator would have in total 4 Gen 2 ports if operated with a 3950X?

Cheers
David X.

Hi David,

The USB layout of the X570 Creator is as follows (regardless of which CPU you are using):

Rear Panel:
4 x USB-A 5Gbps from the CPU
2 x USB-A 5Gbps from the X570 chipset
2 x USB-C Thunderbolt 3/USB 10Gbps via TB3 controller via the X570 chipset

Front:
4 x USB 5Gbps 2x internal header from the X570 chipset
1 x USB 10Gbps internal header from the X570 chipset

Hope that helps.

Chris.

So despite there being planty 10GBps capable ports on the CPU and the chip-set, asrock decided to unnecessarily castrate the functionality?

WTF wtf?!

You'll find the majority of X570 and TRX40 boards from most manufacturers don't expose all USB capability/bandwidth. ASUS generally do on ROG boards, but they have their own problems (poor fan control above 75C, poor chipset cooling).

The X570 Creator is still a good board, if you need 10GbE and Thunderbolt 3. Also the Chipset generally stays below 55C even with the fan off which is good. Its necessary though as at any speed the chipset fan is loud.
