I have a Z97 Killer with a 4790k. I have it overclocked at 4.8 Ghz (though the speed in this case does not matter). With Speedstep on in the BIOS, CPU-Z and Intel Extreme Tuning Utility never go higher than 4 Ghz even though they both show the multiplier is 48. With Speedstep off, the CPU always runs at 4.8 Ghz, even when the CPU is idle at 2% usage.
I have tried various combinations of settings in the BIOS but I can never get Speedstep to work properly, meaning to clock the CPU down and up as demand dictates. I don't know if this is related, but I found that Minimum Processor State (and Maximum Processor State) is missing from my Power Options in Windows 7 64-bit. I tried adding them to the registry but the options never appear even though I get the message that the entries were added successfully. |
