Computer won't boot when graphics card installed!

Hi,

I received my computer parts to build my new gaming PC however when the PC didn't boot at all. CPU fan won't work and there is no POST. I disconnected the graphics card and PC boots. My cpu doesn't have a iGPU so I can't see the BIOS screen without extrnal gpu.

I connected the 8-pin EPS to motherboard + the 8-pin PCIe power to graphics card.

Tested with two different PSU and two graphucs card with no luck!

I assume the Motherboard ( B460m-ITX) has a faulty PCIe slot.

Any ideas?

It's not the CPU or memory issue. If I connect a graphics card that doesn't require additional 6 or 8pin power then the system starts.

I fixed this issue. Here's how:

My motherboard is ASRock B460m-ITX/AC with old BIOS 1.10
1- plugged in a very old graphics card so that system can boot
2- updated the BIOS from 1.10 to 1.40.
3- Restarted the computer and shut it down then disconnect the power from PSU and inserted the new graphics card. The syatem booted and loaded!

This is typically either a sign of a dying PSU or a PSU that isn't powerful enough
for the load being applied to it.

Some PSUs have more than one 12v rail, in essence it means more than one transformer
is used inside the PSU for the 12v outputs. In these cases it is possible to
overload one of the rails and end up with power issues even though the PSU is
seemingly rated for much higher loads. This is why I always recommend a single
rail PSU with at least 50A on the 12v rail for gaming setups. Multi rail PSUs
are typically either used in "silent" applications or workstation/server environments.


So, if you are using a single rail PSU it is either dying or not powerful enough.
If you are using a multi rail PSU you can try changing up the cables connected
to the GPU, swap one of them for another one from a different rail. This will
balance the load and may resolve your issue.

It was the PSU. I changed to another one and it works fine now. I just wanted to add for other people who see this that the issue was intermittent. It seemed like 1/3 of the time the PC would boot and operate normally for hours on end.
