Hi, building a computer with the ASROCK B550M Phantom Gaming 4 and Ryzen 5 5600G. Computer booted up no problem with version 1.0 BIOS, but there's no XMP option to enable, despite the description of the motherboard stating that it supports XMP. This is a budget build, so I went with TeamGroup's T-Force memory. Memory kit product number is TLZGD48G3200HC16CBK. It's not listed in the QVL for Cezanne processors, but I've never had issues working outside the QVL before. In fact, under "DRAM Information" in BIOS, the JDEC profile for the advertised XMP settings is staring me in the face, there's just no option to enable it.
I want to update the BIOS to see if this would fix the issue and allow me to enable XMP, but the BIOS download page says in bright yellow letters that I need a non-Cezanne processor to update to the most recent version. Since the computer seems to be working just fine right now, I would think I'd be able to use the currently installed and working 5600G to update the BIOS, but I really don't want to brick this board. Has anyone tried it? Any luck? Any other way to enable XMP? |

I havent tried it yet, but you may need to follow these directions to update the BIOS.

I, too, have installed a 5600G on the B550 PG4 motherboard, and the XMP option was there. I did update the BIOS to 2.10 initially with a Ryzen 9 3900X. I've had other issues with this combination, and I've changed the BIOS multiple times with the 5600G installed, and not bricked the board.

I'm anxious to hear how this goes for you. I was planning a similar upgrade for my GF's 9-year-old A85X/A10-5800K system. I'm surprised your 5600G posted with the 1.00 BIOS but it gives me hope. It seems logical that if your CPU is already functional that you could flash to whichever 1.60 or higher supported BIOS you want, as long as you also adhere to the AMD AIO VGA driver install steps stated in the Support section?
I did watch a YouTube video recently where the word on the street was that ASRock planned on rolling out boards to resellers/retailers soon with BIOS pre-flashed for G-series support out-of-the-box. Not sure how that could happen if they still wanted lowest common denominator compatibility with older APU/CPU supported. One would not think that was the case based on how contrary the ASRock BIOS/CPU support pages reads... requiring possession of non-Cezanne APU or CPU+GPU combo. I was actually starting to consider or resolved to having to instead buy B450 or X470 because of all this, since those boards appear to still support my current 2400g, which I could then use to flash to 5600G-version BIOS. |
