These two issues manifests itself with an AMD 3400G with onboard graphics CPU and the latest VMWare esxi 7.0U3 operating system.
I have not tried older versions of esxi. Two issues, they are present on all bios since 2.30. till the latest 3.60. I tried them all. first issue ( only present since 3.40 since this option is only available since 3.40 ): since bios 3.40 there is an option to disable the graphics of the cpu. This setting does not work. It is impossible to disable the graphics of the CPU. Second issue: the reserved memory for the onboard graphics of the CPU is huge and trying to change it in bios does nothing. For instance, with 2x16GB of ram ( 32 total ), the available memory to the operating system is 19GB. With 4x32GB of ram ( 64 total ) the available memory to the operating system is 33GB of ram. no matter what amount of memory is selected in bios for the reserved graphics memory ( 128mb or 512mb or 1gb or even 16gb ) the bios disregards any setting. This is clearly a bios related issue as I don't have this problem with a x570 gigabyte board with the exact same cpu and memory. On this gigabyte board, I can disable the onboad graphics of the AMD 3400G and if I want to use the onboard graphics I can select the amount of memory to use for graphics memory in bios without any issue. |
