Hi there
I am trying to get a new build working but cannot get the system to POST.

Symptom: The CPU and DRAM lights on the board flash, CPU fan spins but case fan pulses and does not spin.

Mobo: B550 Phantom Gaming 4ac
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
Memory: DDR4     ADATA     3600     3600     8GB     AX4U360038G18A-DT60
Storage: Firecuda 520 500GB M.2

Can someone please advise best course of action?

Cheers

Brendon

Kerberos_20 has a point, you need a GPU with the Ryzen 5 5600x. The display outputs
on the motherboard only work with APUs (Ryzen XXXXg).

The GPU is an ancient thing that I am struggling to find the model for. The behaviour is the same with the GPU inserted or not.

Some older GPUs (PCIe v1.1 and older) may not work on newer boards. It can be hit
and miss, some do, some don't. Particularly older Quadro and Firepro cards seem
to not work.

Also check what BIOS version is on your board, the version it shipped with will be
printed on a small white sticker on the BIOS chip itself. Once you have the version
you can check it against the CPU support list here:

https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B550%20Phantom%20Gaming%204ac/index.asp#CPU

As you can see, if your board shipped with an earlier version than 1.20 then your
CPU will require a BIOS update to work. For this you will either need a compatible
3000 series CPU or to take your board in to a service center/store and ask them
to do it for you.

The GPU is PCIe 2.0.

The BIOS is 1.80 so it should be compatible.

I appreciate the suggestions.

Thanks for the full parts list, it helps a lot.

First up, disconnect power from the mains then pull the CMOS battery.
Once you have the battery out find the Clear CMOS jumper (should be listed in your
user manual) and set it to the clear position.
Leave the system like this for 10 mins or so the put the jumper back to it's normal
position and replace the battery.
Make sure your RAM is in slots A2 and B2 and reconnect power to the system and
try to power up.

If you only have a single RAM module it should go in slot A2. Let us know what
happens, hopefully you get a POST screen.

So after a long hiatus interrupted by my son wanting his PC back I have performed some additional troubleshooting. Luckily I have two of everything as I was updating both my sons PC's. Using the original MOBO I have swapped CPU and memory. I swapped the MOBO and did the same. Alas same behaviour. CPU and RAM lights flash on the board and the chassis fan pulses.

What the heck am I missing?

Oh and I used a jumper on the original config. Same behaviour.

All suggestions appreciated.
