Hello!

We have an issue with an x570 Steel Legend, that we are unable to select primary PCI-E lane on the motherboard. There are 2 external cards present, an NVidia K1 GRID and an AMD FirePro W4100. The reason we need to swap the primary lanes is the size of the K1 GPU. The K1 doesn't fit to the lane 1 because of the CPU cooler. If both cards plugged in, picture come from the one which is in PCI-E slot 2. Somewhy lane 2 is the primary, and the K1 doesn't have external connector. The motherboard BIOS does not allow to change primary adapter. Is it possible to force the mainboard to use PCI-E lane 1 as a primary?

Hello,

You cannot swap lanes, they are physically connected to the CPU/chipset
When putting one card in PCIE 1, it will get all 16 lanes, when placing cards in PCIE1 and PCIE3, both slots get 8 lanes
PCIE5 is conencted to the chipset, and offers 4 lanes.
How many lanes are available is depending on the CPU that you use, yu can see this in the specs, section Slots

Kind Regards

Hello!

My problem is that only the card provides video output which is connected to PCI-E slot 3. If the K1 GRID connected to slot 3, the FirePro does not provide video output. So I need to know why is slot 3 used as video output when 2 external cards plugged in and how can I change (swap) this if possible.
