M.2 shorts board when Intel wifi chip is added?

   Ok so this is a follow up to my other post yesterday about not having the M.2 screw and I dug through everything I had for my new build and I did in fact find one tiny screw that was not like the others and it was a perfect fit for the M.2 standoff.  It was overseen by me originally because the screw was black and I was looking for a silver one.  
This is on an x99m Extreme4 mobo.

So anyways I re-install the Intel wifi 7265 chip and added the standoff to port A after removing the yellow film, and screwed it down securely and everything seemed to fit just fine.

Then I go to turn the computer on and it boots for a split second and turns off and will not boot again unless I unplug the power supply and let it sit for a minute, tried again a few times and still getting the same issue.  I even pulled my video card out and tried to boot and getting the same issue of a milisecond boot up and then shut down.

I've since unplugged the PSU & removed the CMOS battery and will let it sit overnight, this cleared up this issue a couple weeks ago when I tried to initially install the intel wifi chip - but I thought this time would have been different since I had the screw and used the standoff and completed the circuit so there wouldn't/shouldn't be a short.

Any idea why this is happening and what the solution is?

One of the great things about this board is the M.2 slot and I really want to utilize it, if not for an SSD then for at least a wifi/blutooth chip combo.

I've also sent this issue off to Asrock technical service as it may require a deeper level of understanding to get this issue resolved.

	Well the computer has been uplugged with CMOS battery out for about 10 hours and I just tried to plug everything back in and it's completely dead. I'm going to leave it uplugged with battery out for a full 24 hours, but I'm so pissed off right now. I thought there was built in safe-guards for stuff like this and is it even possible to fry out the board by putting a M.2 wifi card into a SSD M.2 slot?

	When you tried it again was the wifi card still in the system?

	No I removed the wifi card shortly after it shorting out. Although when the situation happened, by me trying to get it to turn on it might have turned on & immediately right off a few times before I stopped and realized I was dead in the water (at least for the time being hopefully)

	I would pull the PSU leads from the board, both the 24 pin and the 8 pin/s while the battery is out. Good luck, let us know if it wakes up.

	Ok thanks, I just did that. I'll give it a full 24 hours and keep my fingers crossed. I'm going to assume this isn't covered under warranty? lol

	You can always try an RMA. If the fault was with the slot it should be honored.

	Of course I just threw the damn box out like last week too. But yeah that's a good idea, I've already emailed tech support when this happened so we'll see what they say. I was just reading over the mobo info on their website and it does include "Full Spike Protection" So lets hope that it works and applies to my situation too! lol

	Well I got the itch and put it all back together before a full 24 hours and we're back up and running smooth again! I think I'm done messing with the M.2 slot lol It would be nice to know if I have a faulty M.2 slot or is it's strictly for SSDs? I'll post what I hear from Asrock when they email me back in regards to this. Thanks for the help.

	The Ultra M.2 slot on your board is strictly for M.2 SATA and PCIe SSDs, not M.2 wifi cards. The M.2 "key" (the pattern of notches on the contact end of the card) on your Intel 7256 card is an unusual type. We really need to not consider an "M.2" slot as a generic interface, it really isn't. I'm not aware of an M.2 port that will accept both M.2 drives and wifi cards. M.2 SATA and PCIe SSDs use different M.2 keys, which identify each type of device. So do M.2 wifi cards. I can't even tell you without checking what key your wifi card uses. Your M.2 port will work fine with M.2 SSDs, I use them in multiple boards including my X99, and they work fine.
