    Posted: 13 Apr 2016 at 7:12am
My old desktop died, I built my first desktop with the ASROCK Z170 PRO4S and a  Intel Core i3.  I  will be using my old Hard Drives because I have everything on it including Windows 7, trying to load Windows 10. I tried the Windows 10 ISO on a USB Drive. I get as fare as the Compatibility  Report, Then I have to start over. I do have 2 new 1 TB Hard Drives ready to install once I get this running. Keep in Mind I'm doing this by trial and error, not real knowledgeable building computers. I work on cars!! LOL. Any suggestion would be great, I know I should of went to Best Buy !!! I never take the easy way out !! Any suggestions would be great !!! Please keep in very basic!!!

Sorry but many questions to find out exactly what you want to do.

First, it seems your new build works? Meaning it starts up and you can get into the BIOS by pressing the Del or F2 keys? It seems you may be at that point, but we need to know if that is where you are at now.

While you want to use your old HDD, the problem with that is the Win 7 installation was done on a completely different set of hardware. That is, different mother board, CPU, memory, etc.

If you simply connect the old HDD to the new build and try to start Windows 7, that will usually be a problem. The new hardware you are using won't work with the drivers/software that was installed for the old hardware. Windows 7 will try to update the drivers if you are connected to the Internet, but that could fail and is never a good way to move to a new PC.

Did you start the new PC with the old HDD connected? If so, did Windows 7 work?

Do you want to use your old HDD because it has all your programs and files on it?

Are you trying to do the free upgrade to Windows 10, using the old HDD, and want to save all your files, etc?

Or are you just trying to install Windows 10 on the old HDD, and wipe out all of your old files, etc?

We really need to know these things to tell you your options and what to do.

I have 2 new HD new style, want to move all of my data to them

currently using old HD, Windows 7 does not work

Do you want to use your old HDD because it has all your programs and files on it?

Yes, I can plug my new HD next, then move data from old HD when I get it running

We really need to know these things to tell you your options and what to do.
