Hello, I just had a few questions about the onboard audio on the x670e taichi board. First, it shows up as "USB Audio" in windows so I was wondering, is it connected via USB? Is this common for on-board audio these days? Second, I get quite a bit of noise (coil wine?), especially through the front panel port, but even on the back-plate port as well, during gaming. Quite possibly coming from my video card. Kinda wondering what is even the point of high quality audio codec on board if you just get noise? I end up using my USB sound bar, or USB-C audio adapter anyway (using it's own DAC of course) and get no noise.

I found this: https://www.reddit.com/r/ASUS/comments/sf4tau/fixes_for_realtek_alc4080_sound_problems_on_asus/
Apparently, the new fancy pants Realtek ALC408* codec is connected as a USB device. Talk about going backwards. All I ever want from the motherboard audio device is a reliable implementation with SPDIF optical out, so I can hook up an external DAC with zero electrical noise from the computer. I don't know why they go out of their way to go backwards. |
