Topic: New NVMe ssd in slot M2.2 issuesPosted: 03 Apr 2023 at 10:32pm |

Hello all
Recently purchased a 1 tb Crucial P3 Plus drive. After installing it in slot M2.2, the computer would not boot, nor would it allow me to go into the bios. I have a Samsung drive in slot 1, and one SATA drive as well. Once I remove the new drive, everything boots normally. Anythoughts? |

What motherboard? Some models don't support 2 NVMe drives. For example, my B450M Pro4 R2.0 will support NVMe drive on the first m.2 slot, but only SATA drive on the second m.2 slot. And that second m.2 shares SATA controller with one of the SATA ports.

Okay, that board supports NVMe drives in all three m.2 slots.
If I were you, I'd diagnose further by trying the 3rd m.2 slot, or swapping into the first m.2 slot. At least then you can determine if the new NVMe drive is bad, or if the 2nd m.2 slot is bad. |

I tried the third slot as well, same issue. My OS is on the drive in the first slot. I suppose I could swap it to the second slot and see if it boots.

I just noticed, there's another thread with similar issue:
https://forum.asrock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=24833&title=pc-not-starting-after-adding-new-m-2-ssd Maybe there's something weird about Crucial P3. And maybe there's a BIOS update that deals with it. I only buy SK Hynix SSDs these days. Shrug. |
