Hi,
I just installed a new Z790 Taichi with a i7-13700KF CPU and GTX 1070 GPU. The GPU is working fine in Windows, but I don't see an UEFI screen during boot. I've also attached a speaker and it gives me 5 beeps. What could be the problem here? Thanks! |

Update: after juggling components and connections trying to find a solution, the system stopped booting completely. Maybe I broke my SSD, maybe something else, I don't know anymore.

5 quick beeps typically means "display not found" Have you tried connecting your
display to all the different outputs on your GPU? The OS will detect the display regardless of what output (on the GPU) it is connected to. During POST the system looks for the display on a "preferred output". Edited by Xaltar - 15 Jul 2023 at 5:19pm |

Yes, I have. I don't know if the MB expects something connected to its own connectors, but as the CPU has no graphics unit, I can't test this.

Your response did eventually guide me to the solution, thank you! Obviously, while trying many possible combinations, I missed one of connecting the GPU. The 1070 needed a firmware update (Google Nvidia Displayport Update), which led to no DP displays being recognized. Additionally, as I cleared CMOS, I had to press F1 to continue booting, which I didn't see, obviously. So connecting an HDMI Display to the right port, pressing F1 and updating the GPU solved the problem.
