My ASRock X99 Extreme4 says it's socket is LGA 2011-3. I want to use an Intel 5820K CPU for that motherboard but Intel says the LGA for it is 2011-v3. Intel does use LGA 2011-3 as the correct socket for several Xeon processors but I don't see that term being used for their high end core processors. Can I safely use the Intel 5820K processor in my ASRock Extreme4 motherboard even though the manual says it uses an
LGA socket 2011-3? Does ASRock use the two terms interchangeably? Are they just different ways of saying the same thing? Intel does not seem to use the terms interchangeably because it uses the LGA 2011-3 only with several Xeon processors and with none or their high-end core processors. If there is a difference, what is it? Thanks.

Just a different way of saying the same thing. Nothing to worry about.

All X99 boards are, formally speaking, socket LGA2011-v3.

If you checked the CPU Support List for your board, you would see the i7-5820K in the list. I use that processor in my ASRock X99 Extreme6 board.

Oh wait... you're using a 5820K CPU according to your post. Is that a different processor than an i7-5820K? Wink
