is there a way to get the Fatal1ty Z370 Professional Gaming i7 motherboard to recognize the 4TB samsung 990 m2 drive?

It seems like the Z370 mobos have trouble reading Gen 4 SSD's even though they are supposed to be backwards compatible. I have a Z370 Taichi and I couldn't get it to read a WD Black SN850X. But every Gen 3 SSD I've tried works fine.
