It sounds like the UEFI update file is the right size. I downloaded the 3.00 UEFI for your board, and the unzipped file is X99EX433.00, and is 16,384 KB in size.
Be sure to use a USB 2.0 port on the board's IO panel, when using Instant Flash. Before you try to update the UEFI again, select Load UEFI defaults in the Exit screen, and then Save and Exit. Get right back into the UEFI with the USB flash drive in a USB 2.0 port on the board's IO panel, and try again. If that does not work, or do this first, clear the UEFI/BIOS first, and then try to use Instant Flash. |

I have tried contacting ASRock support with the bios Instant Flash issue, but have received no reply in 2 days.
I am definitely downloading the correct Instant Flash file, and the have tried 3 usbs in different ports, and the unzipped file simply isn't detected as a BIOS image file (I can see the USB is detected, and the file on them is cycled through). Can anyone offer any help at all? |

Can anyone shed light on the not being able to update BIOS using instant flash issue. Using USB formatted with FAT32 (which I've already used for update once and worked).
1. Download instant flash zip file from http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/X99%20Extreme43.1/?cat=Download&os=BIOS 2. Extract to root of USB - gives me a file named: X99EX433.00 3. Boot up - hit F6. It recognises and scans the USB, bat say no disk image is found. What's going on? |

Yet again, it's completely unstable. Didn't do anything, but can't OC at all again. All latest firmware and drivers. No idea why it was OK for today at 4MHz, but then shocking. Unfortunately I can't go back to 3.0 as the bios won't recongnize the firmware file (zipped or unzipped) on the USB (even though it's reading the USB) Really really disappointed in the mobo - it's a very expensive pile of garbage.

Well, it seems we have some differences of opinions...
I can't comment on the 3.10 UEFI, since I don't have your board and don't have a version equivalent to your board's 3.10. I do know that with my X99 Extreme6/3.1 board, with the Broadwell-E compatible UEFI (3.00) installed (IME firmware version is 9.1.30.1008) and the new IME software components installed (version 11.0.4.1186), I have no problems with over clocking my i7-5820K. Raggz, it seems you are saying you could OC your X99 Extreme4/3.1 board with the 3.00 UEFI version, and unknown CPU (likely a Haswell-E?), without installing the IME software update? Just looking for a data point on that. |

Windows reset fixed 90% of the issues. Set the auto-OC to 4.2 MHz and got a BSOD only under gaming load. Can boot fine and run without crashing provided it's not pushed.
Could be either the rubbish 3.1 BIOS (as stated above), or the auto-OC settings aren't very good. Will try downgrading to 3.0 (or maybe test the beta 3.03). If this doesn't help, will start tweaking the voltages. Chip was stable at 4.2 MHz before, and seems a good overclocker. |

There is nothing wrong with your windows. I've been on bios 3.00 since i bought this motherboard and it has worked flawlessly. Last night i tried the 3.10 and it's highly unstable if you try to overclock.
I can't get my system to boot if i touch anything above stock. It freezes either immediatly at post or it freezes when it reaches the point where it loads USB a second before login screen. I went back to 3.00 and OC @ 4.2 works like a charm and 100% stable. There is definatly and issue with 3.10. |

You have confused Windows 10 registry entries and who knows what else, given the differences between those two mother boards, both in hardware and software.
Add to that the Broadwell-E compatible UEFI/BIOS, that contains a different IME firmware (not the IME software) that is part of the UEFI file, and you have a mess I would not trust. Of course, this is the first time we can really try using the Broadwell-E compatible UEFI, with the updated Intel IME software, while using a Haswell-E processor. I also use an i7-5820K in an ASRock X99 board, so will test that all myself. I just returned from the Computex show in Taipei, so have not yet had a chance to do it. I should have time later today... ![]() |

A clean install is always advisable, especially if you are having issues. At the very least a fresh install allows you to rule out the OS as a potential cause.

Unbuntu is fine, but Win 10 isn't even with the updated EMI installed. Suspect it's something to do with not doing a clean install of Windows when I swapped the mobo. Problem persists.
Best approach is to do a clean Win 10 install? Edited by gravelc - 06 Jun 2016 at 4:20pm |
