Old Bios New Board and CPU

Hi All
I hope someone can help me out

I just got my X99X Fatal1ty Killer/3.1 Board and an I7-6900K CPU
Unfortunately the Board has the old Bios and the 6900K needs Ver3 Bios

It wont post and stops at error 67 (chipset initialization error)

So i cant get into the UEFI to upgrade the Bios

I dont have a spare older CPU and the shop i bought it from is 1000Km away
any suggestions how to upgrade the Bios ?

Sadly there does not sound like i have a fast or cheep way to fix this QQ

I dont want to wait for a chip to be sent from the other side of the world nor do i want to pay for
and re ship my MB to my supplier

Hopefully i can find a computer shop that has a compatible CPU (on a Saturday before a long weekend)

My supplier said the Bios chip cant be removed... to me they look like 8 pin pull out chips
is the supplier wrong ?

If it is removable i will push him to send me one
 i hope you can answer that for me ,W link if possible

You are right, the supplier is wrong.

ASRock has used replaceable BIOS chips on most of their boards for years. Both of the BIOS chips on your board are replaceable, they are in 8 pin DIP sockets.

I don't have a link to specifications that state the BIOS chips are in sockets, but this picture from your board's information page shows the sockets pretty clearly, on the right of the board's battery:



You can find the price for BIOS chips on the ASRock Repair/RMA page ($15 US). If the BIOS chips cannot be replaced, why would ASRock sell them:

While mother board manufactures must deal with the problems and customer grief in situations like this, we should remember that Intel has not provided a method to allow the use of a new, "compatible" processor generation, without having an original, previous generation compatible processor in the board to perform the UEFI/BIOS update.

That was the situation with X79 boards, and the Sandy Bridge-E to Ivy Bridge-E compatibility UEFI/BIOS update. This is nothing new or unique for the Intel HEDT processor updates that share the same chipset.

In the USA, a supplier could sell you the X99 board, and the Haswell-E and Broadwell-E processors. Would they provide us with a new BIOS chip? I doubt it, and have never heard of that happening. But good luck to you!

That statement may be taking for granted the need for UEFI/BIOS update, since the board is otherwise compatible with Broadwell-E processors. The person that wrote or told you the board was compatible with Broadwell-E processors may have been ignorant of the need for a UEFI/BIOS update.

I am in the exact same situation. Just purchased an i7-6850K and will pick up my ASRock Fatal1ty X99X Killer/3.1 tomorrow. I was told by retailer that the motherboard was directly from supplier because they didn't have any in stock. I hoped perhaps then it would have the latest BIOS version.
