System:
1. MoBo: Asrock Z170 GAMING-ITX/AC S1151 M-ITX Intel Z170 DDR4 2. CPU: INTEL Core i7-6700 3,4GHz LGA1151 8MB Cache Tray C 3. RAM: Corsair CMK32GX4M2A2400C16 Vengeance LPX 4. PSU: Sharkoon SilentStorm SFX Gold 500W 5. Cooler: Noctua NH-L9x656. 6. HDD: 5 x Samsug 2TB 7. OS: Ubuntu 16.04 LTE 8. Case: SilverStone SST-DS380B ITX Problem: On installation of Ubuntu 16.04 LTE there was no output from the HDMI. A PCIe card was installed on the single PCIe x 16 slot and then there was a signal for a monitor. The BIOS also does not seem to provide some way to activate the HDMI's. The CPU does seem to have an onboard GPU. How can the HDMI's be activated without having to install a graphic card? |

![]() Tried everything in Bios. Multimonitor does not work. Setting both onboard IGPU and Internal PCIe Card as active at all times does not work either. Only classical DVI or HDI work. Setting to only HDMI for CPU IGPU dieactivetes PCIe GPU Card. HDMI only works on some Systems. Auto Update with Internet worked. Newest Firmware installed. Did not solve erratic Monitor output behaviour. All the cards will be returned to the Supplier! It does not behave as advertised. Suggestions welcome for an ALTERNATIVE Mini-ITX/ac (170x170 mm) Form Factor, Intel Z170 LGA1151 Core i7, >6xSATA3, 4xDDR4 3400 OC and at least 2 PCIe connectors? Does not have to be ASRock. There are no options to activate the HDMI ports, nor is there any reason that should be necessary. Sorry to say, but Ubuntu is not an officially supported OS. This board is not advertised as working with Ubuntu of any version. Why do you think it is compatible with Ubuntu? My question is, does Ubuntu 16.04 LTE have a built in video driver for use with the Intel HD 530 graphics? If a video driver for the Intel integrated graphics is not installed, then it will not function. If the driver is not compatible, then it will not work correctly. What video driver for the Intel integrated graphics are you using? I don't understand these statements from your second post: Only classical DVI or HDI work. Setting to only HDMI for CPU IGPU dieactivetes PCIe GPU Card. HDMI only works on some Systems. What does classical DVI or HDI mean? Unless you have IGPU Multi-Monitor enabled in the UEFI, using the onboard graphics (having a cable connected to it and to a monitor) will cause a video card to be not used. The "HDMI only works on some Systems" statement is curious, what does that mean? What does "Systems" mean? |

I have this board running with Windows 10. I'm using a PCI-E based GPU and the iGPU on the board (HDMI) at the same time. Works fine.
Might be an OS issue.

I have this board running perfectly (well except for suspend) with linux Debian.
Ubuntu should also run this board without problem. Unfortunaly it seems that you won't get much support from here as long as you are using linux. So I suggest that you install Windows 10 to avoid unnecessary lengthy arguments. Which kernel are you using ? I remember that for old kernel I had to use the kernel parameter "i915.preliminary_hw_support=1". Try also to use the other HDMI output, and if you can the Display Port output. Cheers |

In the mean time I am using another MoBo C236 WSI - it is a Server MoBo with emphasis on SATA Ports and not just OC speed. They use the same Bios/UEFI, but not the same 'GUI'. Otherwise I am using all the same HW that I used on the Z170 GAMING-ITX/AC S1151 M-ITX. I have it running with CentOS7 Server with GUI. It is a server for Self-hosting and usages like OpenMediaVault NAS on a Debian ISO running in VirtualBox, accessing the software Raid managed by CentOS 7. Thanx for the feedback. Contact through PM's will be appreciated regarding Linux and ASRock. Regards/Cheers |

Except if someone step up and forbid us to have such conversation here, I don't see why we have to go PM with this.
Anyway can you tell me which kernel you are using with Ubuntu ? Or are you using CentOS ? And have you tried both HDMI output ? If you can, would you do me a favor and try to suspend/wake up twice with the Z170 GAMING-ITX/AC and post the result here: http://forum.asrock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=2896&title=suspend-skylake-on-fatal1ty-z170-gamingitx-ac Thanks |
