When adding and addition 2 sticks of 4 gigs DDR3 the system freezes and does not POST. If I remove any pair the system boots. When adding the last two sticks I get 4 beeps on boot up. These are identical sticks. I have rotated them all in and out. The board does post no matter what two paired slots I use or what two sticks I use. It just will not handle four sticks.
When booting with an M2 PCIe SSD the system freezes. Uplug the M2 it posts fine. I have flashed to current bios. I am running an I7 4790. The cpu is brand new as well as everything else on the board. I unplugged all SATA drives when I tried booting from the M2. Memory and M2 are on ASROCKS HWCL. I do run a Samsung SSD that is also on the HWCL. I flashed to recent BIOS, no help with the problem. I am not happy ...... |

I did get the DDR3 to work. No dice on the M2 SSD. Has anyone successfully installed a M2 ssd on on of these motherboards? I have a Samsung SSD on the board. Could this cause a conflict?
I sure don't know. |

You said you have a Fatal1ty Z97 board, in your thread's title. There are six different Fatal1ty Z97 board models. Which one do you have? http://www.asrock.com/mb/index.asp?s=Current A similar situation exists with Samsung M.2 PCIe SSDs, there are several models. XP941, SM951 in AHCI and NVMe versions, and the NVMe 950 Pro. Which model do you have? Using another Samsung SSD or any other drive does not cause any compatibility issues. Yes, I have installed a Samsung M.2 PCIe SSD on my ASRock Z97 Extreme6 board. An SM951 to be precise. It's the OS/Windows drive. Works fine with other SSDs in that PC. It is quite possible to use a PCIe SSD on a Z97 board. I use and have used Samsung 950 Pros in an ASRock X99 board, and ASRock Z170 board. The Z170 board also has an SM951, so two M.2 PCIe SSDs. Both PCs use, or have used them, as the OS drive, Windows 10. The X99 board is currently using an Intel 750 PCIe SSD. Until we get more information, asking questions is difficult. But... What OS or version of Windows are you using? Did you just connect the M.2 SSD to the board to see if it would work? Or are you trying to install Windows on it? What is your video card configuration? In general, the M.2 slot shares PCIe lanes with the video card slots. That can differ between mother board models... so stuck without more information. You said the PC freezes during POST with the PCIe SSD connected? Just an empty, new SSD? So you cannot get into the UEFI/BIOS with it connected? That is unusual, never saw that happen or heard of it happening. First off, thanks for a reply. The Mobo is the Fatality X97 Killer3.1
Bios flash and a cmos clear resolved memory and M2 freezing. However.... Win 7 does not recognize the drive as being boot able. I formatted the drive and I can write to the drive. No boot. I am unhappy with this board for more reasons than I care to list. This post is turning into a rant. I give up. I am requesting an RMA from the vendor. I purchased a new mobo to complete the build. New system works with all the same parts. Time to move on. |
