    Posted: 06 Jul 2016 at 3:05am
Hello,
I am currently using an 990FX Extreme9 with an FX-9590 processor running my ESXi 6 system.
With ESXi, it only supports CIM censor data and a customized lm_sensors. where running sensord shows: Warning: failed to open ipmi device: No such file or dir

I would like to be able to get some temperature monitoring information on the board as my Swiftech H220 X2 water cooler seems to run harder when in ESXi even when the CPU is only around 15% usage and no overclock. When I tried to do a Prime95 test via a Windows PE disk it started at 3 degree centigrade and idled around 12 centigrade. It peaked to 51, but stayed around 42 while applying a load which are all within tolerances. If ESXi is putting a hard load on it, I would like to see what this is doing.

Is there some IPMI module, ESXi CIM extension, or some BIOS setting that would work with the 990FX Extreme9 board to get ESXi 6.0 to recognize the temperature sensors?

Thank you.

Since the Extreme9 is considered a desktop board it doesn't have the req'd BMC chip/sensor swith which to tap into and extrapolate this data. The Extreme9, as with most(all?) desktop boards rely on SMbus to correlate this.

Does anything show when you navigate to:
vSphere Client > :Server: > Configuration tab > Health Status

Hello,
I am sorry I didn't get notified there was a reply and summer got busy.
I am still in the same situation, so I am finally following up on it.

To answer your question, Does anything show when you navigate to:
vSphere Client > :Server: > Configuration tab > Health Status

There is only one sensor status there and it shows an icon of a desktop with
the sensor name of "To Be Filled By O.E.M. To Be Filled By O.E.M."
Status Normal.

And Really in more research I think this stuff comes from CIM not IMPI.  So perhaps something that can pull CIM info from motherboard?
