Is the 1.30B BIOS update for Z97 Exteme 6/3.1? Couldn't find it in the update section would you post a link?

Interesting comments about needing a BIOS update.  I was under the impression that current Z97 ASROCK boards already supported PCIe booting.  My Addonics PCIe adapter is on the way but the Samsung 950Pro won't hit stores for a few weeks so I have some time before I need it.

I have the ASROCK Z97 Pro4.  What's the best way to get in touch with ASROCK to ask for an updated BIOS?  Is there some super secret forum or email address?

You can contact ASRock support in the link below. If you clicked on the orange colored font Support link at the top of every forum page, all the ASRock support links are listed, including this one:

On a Z97 board, PCIe booting through an Ultra M.2 port is one thing, and through a PCIe slot is another. Using a PCIe slot may require a UEFI/BIOS update.

I'm afraid I'm not going to be of much help after tonight. I am  going to be traveling for work and won't have access to my computer unfortunately for a month. By then I expect you will have your RAID 0 operating at twice the speed it is now lol!  Thanks for all your help Parsec.

Not to worry TimH, I understand. I'm sure you'll miss your PC... for a month?! Shocked

My RAID 0 OS volume is fine and stable too. Ive set up a Macrium Reflect backup and Recovery bootable USB flash drive to recover the OS if things go wrong. Hopefully the Intel IRST driver will mature and PCIe RAID arrays won't be as fragile as they seem to be now.

Twice as fast you say? If we are lucky, but who knows? Wink

Thx parsec.  I sent a note to support asking if the pro4 could boot the 950 from a PCIe slot.  I'll let you know what they say.

I can't find that version either, since the OP did not specify which Extreme6/3.1 board he was talking about.

Any UEFI/BIOS version with a 'B' in the name is a Beta BIOS/UEFI. That does not mean it is broken or questionable, just that the feature it adds has not been tested by users in the "wild", and verified to work correctly. That file would be in the Beta section of the board's Download page.

If anyone wants to monitor the temperatures of their AHCI SM951s in a RAID 0 array (or not), try CrystalDiskInfo. By some miracle it can read the temperature data of these SSDs while a member of a RAID 0 array, which is a great accomplishment IMO.

You can also choose a graph Option by choosing the temperature SMART attribute.

Download the SMART data program and benchmark here:

I upgraded from UEFI 1.4  to 1.5 and the same thing happened to me, it reset the Intel RST RAID config which contains my Windows 10 boot partition.  When enabled the RAID again one of the drives was missing from the RAID and it showed as "failed".  Had to delete and re-create (again with a 128k stripe).

Fortunately I've been considering this rig experimental (haven't registered Windows yet) but I want to using it for real gaming soon.  I think I'm going to try Macrium Reflect suggested by Parsec.

Thanks for posting your experience Ronzer, although I'm not happy you lost your RAID 0 array.

Your description of the failure is identical to mine. I never had this happen with SATA SSD RAID 0 arrays. I could clear the UEFI or update to a new version, but all I had to do is reset the SATA mode to RAID right after the clear or update, and the RAID 0 array was fine.

I have no idea how to avoid this problem yet... or if it is even possible. I'm blaming it on the RST PCIe Remapping option, but that is really just a guess. I don't see this as a problem with the board or the UEFI in general. It might be due to the 14.5 Option ROM, but that is a pure guess.

IF the default setting of RST PCIe Remapping was Enabled, then things might be different, but doing that would require SATA SSD users to Disable that option.

Macrium Reflect has worked great for me with SATA RAID 0 arrays, with the UEFI configured as needed for PCIe SSDs. I have not yet attempted to restore the OS from a Macrium backup and recovery media USB flash drive which is required for that process.

The only other technique I have not tried is removing the SM951s before the UEFI clear or update, then resetting RST PCIe Remapping to Enabled, and mounting the SM951s again. A bit of a pain to do, if it will even work.

This is a cutting edge thing we are doing, the first board and Intel IRST driver that allows these RAID 0 arrays, plus a new chipset. I can't imagine this situation being permanently the way it is... or at least I hope so... Disapprove

How did you create the Macrium recovery media?  When I try it prompts for a driver for "Intel Chipset SATA RAID Controller" and when I try to give it the Intel RST inf like for Windows 10 install it say "No drivers were found" with no option for override.

Is the latest Intel RST compatible with WinPE?
