Im in a never ending battle with the Evga 970 FTW cards. I've contacted Evga's tech support. They try contacting asrock's. As well known the issues with 970s. I tried both cards single in the top slot. They work fine alright. When SLied they have terrible stuttering, and graphic corruption.
1. reinstalled windows from 8.1
2. clean driver install
3. bios update to 1.8
4. new hdmi cable
5. new bridge/ swapped fingers of the cards
6. unparked all cores
7. down clocked cards
8. PSU swap for another 1k enermax
9. set the pci slots to gen 1-3

any other thoughts? Evga seems to think it could be a mobo issue

Greetings, this is ASRock Technical Support Department.

Because we don't have GTX 970 to test now, we test GTX980 with SLI enabled, the system can pass all the 3D Mark test and run Call of Duty about 30 mins without stuttering.
Please refer the picture as below:

In your case, We recommend you to install one graphics card to PCIE3 slot to verify.
If possible, please install the graphics card to another motherboard to verify.

If any, please contact us, we will help you for further check.

Kindest Regards,
ASRock TSD

Can you install one card to pcie 3 to test without it causing problems with the rest of the system. I don't have another system that is sli capable. Is there a tech support number for me to call? or do i just put a ticket in as a request on the website. Call of duty is not that much of a demanding game in comparison to evolve and shadow of mordor and such. Thank you

We have tested Palit Geforce GTX970 with SLI enabled, playing Call of Duty and the graphics shows smoothly.

Please refer the video as below link  :

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0By6uXQzKtvmrVVllZFpITVRBLTQ/view?usp=sharing

We offer some suggestions to you for verifying this issue, please refer to the followings to check your system.

1. Please monitor the CPU loading, temperature is any changed when the symptom happens.

2. If possible, please un-install the unnecessary PCIE device and only connect two pcs VGA cards to verify.

3. If possible, please run graphic benchmark i.e. 3D mark to compare the performance between single VGA card and 2 pcs with SLI enabled.

And we wish to know the following information to do the further check.

1. Which game or test program do you test with and get the symptom?

2. How often does the symptom happen?

3. How long does the symptom occur during games or program? i.e. it happens after playing games 10 minutes.

4. If possible, please take a video to show the symptom.

Thank you for your cooperation.

We have tested Unigine Heaven, we also can see the stuttering issue after enable Vsync.

However, we tested with single GTX970, the issue persist, so the issue may not related to SLI function. Please refer the video as the link: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0By6uXQzKtvmramowLXBDYUNPbWc/edit

Besides, we also test single GTX970 on another vendor's board and can still see the stuttering issue. Please refer the video as the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpqDBj8K0G8

Since the issue happen with two different vendors. After one or two stuttering graphics, we think the issue is related to the test software.

Kindest Regards,

Thanks for testing it out its not really my concern but i see that stutter in games. With one card it seems to be better than with two. But objects in the environment starts to degrade also ( jaggies blurry images) Evolve, shadow of mordor, you can look at GTA5 in the above post.

After we check your video, the display seems show almost smoothly and the FPS is also stable.
We think the little jaggies blurry image is related to graphics material of GTAV.
We recommend you to Enable the VSync for try.

Kindest Regards,
ASRock TSD
