Hi all

I need to hear if anyone is having this issue.
When i do a clean install of win 10 - and do a refresh from the win install screen where it show the sdd/hdd - the machine freezes.
Psu power button is needed for power off.

When i get win 10 clean installed - the system freezes after 2 - 10 min - again the screen just stays there. And i need to take the power.

The system has worked for 9 month until about a month ago. I have used the time from then until now to replace parts :-)

I have now installed the the old inf drivers found here :
http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z97%20Extreme6/?cat=Down...

And i have stopped win 10 updates not essential : Defer feature update

It seems to work now.

But i need to know if this is just me who thinks Asrock / win 10 are having some problem
I am fresh out of ideas what could be wrong hardware wise - and no it is not the ram. I have used them one at the time and it still doesnt work.
And i have used it with my GPU and the onboard and with a borrowed GPU card - and no that did not change anything.

ANY insight would be appreciated
If anyone else has seen this then i would love to hear about it

For info
I have bought a new mb, a new ssd, a new psu.
So have have 2 of the same for mb, ssd, and psu as described below

My setup
mb: asrock z97 extreme6 - bios ver 2.70
ssd : samsung 850 pro
psu : evga 850 t2
windows 10 64 ann version v 1607
cpu : intel core i5- 4460
ram 2 * 8 gb corsair hyperx
GPU : Asus r9 280

While I'm sorry to hear you seem to be having a problem with your Z97 Extreme6 board and Windows 10 Anniversary, please think about what you wrote:

But i need to know if this is just me who thinks Asrock / win 10 are having some problem

Based upon your single experience with your ASRock board and Windows 10, you seem to believe that any ASRock mother board will also have problems with Windows 10?

I have Windows 10 installed in PCs using these ASRock boards: Z77 Extreme4, X99 Extreme6/3.1, Z97 Extreme6, Z170 Extreme7+, and DeskMini 110W (H110M-STX). They all work fine, I don't have any problems with freezing, or have ever had problems during a Windows 10 installation.

I've installed Windows 10 of many versions, including Anniversary, multiple times on these PCs. So many users of ASRock boards that post in this forum are using Windows 10 successfully.

Any PC is a combination of many different parts. The mother board is only one of those parts. All the drivers and software used by a PC is provided by the manufacture of the hardware, or included with Windows. All the mother board drivers are provided by the manufacture of the CPU and chipset compatible with a board, for your board that is Intel. ASRock or any mother board manufacture does not create any driver software. They provide a few programs like your board's A-Tuning and APP Shop, but everything else is not provided by ASRock.

There are so many things that can go wrong with all the different parts of a PC. Yes people tend to blame the mother board because that is easy to do. But that is too simple and most of the time we learn the problems are caused by something else.

Freezing during a Windows installation has never happened to me. I have many questions about that and in general about your PC and Windows installation:

When you install Windows, do you have any over clock of the CPU or memory applied? Windows should be installed with almost all default UEFI/BIOS settings, except those required for the installation and hardware you use. Such as, the SATA mode set to RAID if you plan on using it.

What do you use for the Windows 10 installation media? Windows disk? USB flash drive?

Your board has two SATA controllers, the main Intel and the secondary ASMedia. Which one are you using for the Windows drive, and any other drives?

What is the SATA mode set to for the SATA controller you are using?

What is the model of drive you are using for Windows, the 850 Pro? Have you tried using a new SATA data cable?

Did you have more than one drive connected to the board and running when you install Windows?

When I install Windows, and Windows 10 in particular, I do not connect the PC to my router. I don't connect the PC to my router until I first install all the drivers and software I know should be installed. That way I know Windows is not installing the drivers in my PC.

The order of drivers/software installation for an Intel system is simple, there are really only two that should be done first:

1. Intel chipset/INF file installation package. Not a driver at all, it installs the INF (INFormation files) that identifies the Intel hardware (chipset, network chip, etc). Without this installed first, the actual driver installation programs you run may not be able to identify the hardware in the board, and connected to the board. New chipset/INF file installation programs simply add the INF files for new Intel chipsets, so "old" chipset file installation programs are not wrong or obsolete.

2. Intel Management Engine driver. It is a mistake if you do not install this software.

After these two, the order of driver installation is not important.

Which memory slots are your 8GB DIMMs installed in? What is the full model name of your Corsair memory? Why does using your memory one at a time prove your memory is compatible with your CPU's memory controller?

You wrote your PC seems to work now, which is good. But you still talk about problems you've had, as if problems should never happen. You asked if other ASRock users have had problems with Windows 10. Is that with your board only? Or for any board and other hardware? If someone else has a problem with their PC, and uses Windows 10, what does that mean to you?
