z170 Pro4 fan control issues |

Hey guys i just built a pc with the z170 pro 4. I bought two corsair AF120 3 pin fans for my build and they only run at max and will not adjust speeds even through the bios.
Through some research i assumed that it was because of the pwm connections but some people are saying that ASRock boards can still control 3 pin fans. Ive tried alot of resources and even downloaded speedfan with no luck. Can anyone tell me why i cant adjust the speeds? Thanks! |

Did you check the specifications regarding the fan headers for your board? From the specifications in the manual: 1 x CPU Fan Connector (4-pin) (Smart Fan Speed Control) 3 x Chassis Fan Connectors (2 x 4-pin, 1 x 3-pin) (Smart Fan Speed Control) * CPU_FAN1 and CHA_FAN1 can auto detect if 3-pin or 4-pin fan is in use. Which fan headers are you using for the two AF120 fans? Specifically, as in Chassis Fan 1, etc. Chassis Fan 1 should be able to adjust the speed of a three pin or four pin fan. What are you using to monitor all the fan speeds? What are you using to configure the fan speeds? Are you using the Custom option for the Chassis Fan 1 and Chassis Fan 2 headers? The built in profiles may not allow the fans to slow down. When you use the Custom profile for Chassis Fans 1 and 2, that you configure, set the lowest fan speed to 25%, at 30C. Then increase it to 35% at 40C, 50% at 50C, 70% at 60C. Then select the CPU for temperature monitoring. The Chassis Fan 3 header is a full speed fan header only, no controls for it. Are you using your board's A-Tuning program? If so, do you have A-Tuning configured to auto run when Windows runs? If you do, the fan configuration settings in A-Tuning will override the UEFI/BIOS settings. |

Thanks for the reply! it seems i misunderstood which fan headers could be controlled without a pwm connection.

Specifically, as in Chassis Fan 1, etc." one AF120 is plugged into the chassis3 fan header (the full speed header as you stated), and the other AF120 fan is plugged into the Chassis2 fan header (The other header that cannot control 3 pin) "What are you using to monitor all the fan speeds?" I tried using both the BIOS and the A-Tuning program using the settings you provided but the only fan that would change RPM due to temp was the CPU fan and the one that came with my NZXT case on the chassis1 header. what im getting out of this is that the only case fan i have atm that can be controlled on the MOBO is through the chassis1 header. If i understood more i guess i shouldve spent alittle more for pwm fans but im still learning as this is my first ever build. I appreciate the help. |
