I have set my W10 so the screen turns off after 15 minutes. (The PC is set to never go to sleep.)
Normally, a shake of the mouse or pressing a key will turn the screen on and the PC becomes useable. Several times over the last few weeks, after the screen shuts off, nothing will get the screens on again. (I have two Dell Ultrasharps). No USB ports have power. The illuminated keyboard is still lit but unresponsive. When its USB is unplugged and replugged, the keyboard is no longer lit and still unresponsive. I have swapped the screen ports around - no difference. Opening the CD drawer still works but does not reactivate the PC. A CD will spin up but not reactivate the screens or USB ports. The only way to rectify is to press and hold the power button on the PC. The motherboard is 5 years old and is kept clean. No other issues are detected.

I've never heard of this issue in the past. This happens intermittently? All of the symptoms (no USB port power) always occur? Video card, or the integrated graphics? Do you know if the monitors entered their power saving mode, displaying a message that no signal is being received? I know that may be difficult to be noticed. Did you check the Windows Event Viewer for any clues? I wonder if Win 10 update installed a new video source driver. But that should not account for the USB port problem. Strange issue, the board may have a problem, or possibly the PSU. |

Hi, thanks for your input.
Yes this is intermittent. Happened at least 4 times. PC otherwise running very well. No other problems noticed. No video card, only onboard graphics. When monitors switched on and off with their own power button, there is a message to say "no signal received" so they go in to power save mode. I can see there is constant power from the PSU as the chip fan is running at a normal low setting throughout so the PC is on and not itself in sleep mode. The cpu temp never exceeds 37 degC. Like wise gpu. I will check the event viewer next time (it last happened more than 7 days ago). |

This error has been completely solved.
I run a 128GB SSD and a 1TB HDD on this PC. The SSD is for W10 and other programs and the HDD is for data, music etc. It turns out that due to a W10 update there was several GB of junk windows files left on the SSD which almost totally filled up the space. I removed the W10 junk files and did some other clean ups and now it has 20GB of free space. The wake up issue has totally been solved by this.
