thanks wardog. I ended up having 9 motherboards (out of 50) that would fail to reboot. This effectively ruled out hardware issues because no company could possibly have such an abysmal failure rate without a recall.

Our shipment was a mix of 1.10 and 1.20 BIOS. 1.20, oddly enough, was the version that would hang on restart.

Updating BIOS to 2.00 fixed the restart problem.

hopefully that helps anyone else with that experience.

Kid and Bama,

If you make it to the Windows "loading' screen IMHO that implies POST has finished, leading me to believe this could be maybe a one off flaky install

Are your BIOSes up to date?  The latest is 2.00.

Bama, where these parts bought at the same time? Swapping out the mem in those two would be what I'd be doing too. If swapping corrects this, fire up the offending sticks and using Thaiphoon Burner look to see that the offending sticks are the same IC's.

I have the same issue - but I think the problem is with the motherboard.

I recently purchased 40 of these motherboards, building identical units. Ram = corsair 16gb, i5 kaby lake.

out of 20 builds, i have two units that will not software reboot. They will software shutdown - but will not restart.

i have tried unplugging the reset switches on these two problematic units.

Other units are identical (all machines are clones) and the others reboot properly.

my next step is to swap out RAM on the problematic units / then swap out the CPUs. However, I strongly suspect that the problem is with the motherboard.

Could be RAM incompatibility. Am I correct in assuming that you are using a single 16gb stick?

I would try some different RAM to test.
