Purchased Z97 OC Formula MB about a year ago and built a system with it:
Intel Core i5
8GB x 4 = 32GB of memory
Seasonic 860W power supply
ASUS Strix GTX-970 graphics card
2 x HGST 2TB drives running RAID-1
DVD drive

The system has worked very well and has been used daily for 12+ hours/day.

As some point, the system developed an issue where when it is reset, the BIOS runs, very quickly flashes a 10, there are some clicks, and the BIOS resets and tries again. Infinite loop.  If we power it off completely (power-supply switch off or AC power removed) and back on sooner or later it does boot up. But what a drag.

I removed GTX-970, 3/4 memory sticks, disconnected the DVD drive, and using Intel MB video I still got the same thing.

We are running the 1.30 BIOS. I would like to upgrade to the 1.80 BIOS to see if that fixed the problem. However, when I try to backup A->B, it says it will do it on reboot but then it gets the infinite BIOS loop and I have to power down the system.

Questions:

1. What does code 10 mean?

2. How can I update the BIOS? Should I risk flashing A without being able to backup to B?

3. Any idea on what the root cause is?
