Curiosity got he better of me earlier and i pressed <X> during boot-up, prepared to restart and press <D> when the system wouldn't boot.
But, it did and I went on to find absolutely no noticeable performance difference in anything, except that my CPU was running 5-7??cooler??? Nothing even worth the effort of pressing the key, it says X-Boost is enabled when I boot however there is no "boost", "X" or otherwise that I can tell--Zero, Zilch, Nada. Is this normal? "X-Boost" just marketing hype? It's a 970M Pro3 board w/a FX-8350 CPU and 32 GB DDR3 1866 memory, GeForce 2GB GT-740 video and a Thermaltake 600 W p/s feeding it... |

I couldn't say, I need to dig out my old A10-7890k system and try it out myself.
IIRC the system uses an ASRock board with the X-Boost prompt. I never tried it out as the system runs way too hot as it was and had to be underclocked/volted to even be stable at all. Built the damn thing as in HTPC but ended up not using it for the above reasons. It's a different socket to your FX8k but is based on the same architecture. I'll dig the old system out of storage and give it a try tomorrow. Would be nice if it drops temps on it too |

Maybe I should just get one of those "Dubai call girls" and not worry about it?

Don't get me started on the spammers
There is nothing I love more than having to delete a thousand+ posts a day.... I dug out my old FM2+ system and gave X-Boost a shot. IIRC, the X-Boost thing was a bit gimmicky. I vaguely remember it having something to do with a bunch of saved profiles for various CPUs, a little like XMP for RAM. I tried it on my 7890k setup and all it did was cause overheating and BSODs. I'm not sure how useful that info is though, I always suspected I got a dud CPU for that build. Hope that answers your questions. |

Yeah, I'm cool... I found that "it" set my RAM timing to DDR3-1490 or something odd like that? Maybe that's what made the CPU run cooler--back on "non--X-Boost" now, RAM is back to DDR3-1866 and CPU is humming along at 40 to 45 C with moderate use. I can live with that...
Thank you for your replies! ----------------------------- How much do those girls cost? |
