Asrock x99 Extreme 6 & Cooler ?

We're getting ready to put together our 1st PC build with the above board and Corsair H110 Hydro cooler.

The x99 extreme 6 mobo has a backplate already installed on the back of the motherboard. Is this backplate sufficient to hold the weight of the cooler or must other steps be taken to insure the integrity of the motherboard? We don't see how we can put a backplate on the board with the plate setup the way it is.

Our other question is about the breadboarding procedure, particularly the cooler. When we finally install the mobo and cooler in the tower, will repasting be necessary after running the hardware for just a few minutes? He intends on disconnecting the cooler from the CPU before installing it in the tower. TIA.

with the x99 platform they have four threaded screw holes. you simply put your thermal paste on the processor spread it evenly, after its in the slot and retaining clips are secured down. They generally come with a cross bracket and thumb screws. so the back plate is not needed to be installed. after cooler is in place put the retaining bracket over cooler tighten the cooler down hand tight. when you turn on the system go straight to bios watch the temps for a little bit. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS ADD THERMAL PASTE TO IT UNLESS THE PAD IS ON IT ( I always remove the pad and put thermal paste on it )

Your Corsair H110 provides the correct standoffs for mounting the water block/pump assembly to the 2011 socket. You'll find only one set of the four black standoffs will thread correctly into the threaded holes on the 2011 socket.

The instructions with the H110 shows the two different sets of mounting standoffs. The ones you must use have one of the threaded ends that is much shorter than the other, and has a larger diameter threaded stud than the longer threaded end.

Your X99 board has the 2011 v3 socket, which should have the same mounting characteristics as the earlier 2011 socket used on X79 boards.

You won't have any problems with weight or stress on the CPU socket, particularly when using the water block of any AIO liquid cooler. They are much lighter than any large standard CPU cooler.

You also won't need to apply thermal paste again or remount the water block, as long as you don't remove it from the CPU. If you remove the water block, you must clean off the old thermal paste from the CPU and water block, and apply new thermal paste.

Thanks so much for your help.

Yesterday we breadboarded our new build which necessitated hooking up the cooler to the CPU, the video card, SSD, PSU, etc.,  and did get a successful POST. You are correct about using the shorter standoffs. The overall installation went off w/o a hitch. We are using G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4 2666MHz. I do have to get into the BIOS and enable XMP. Geez, I was impressed to see just how cool the CPU was, 35C.

We did clean the paste from the CPU & cooler after dismantling the components to install in the tower. We did get our first look into UEFI BIOS. Our other PC's and laptops all run the standard non-UEFI. I may return for more help with setup because I never worked with that BIOS setup before. Today's BIOSes offer a lot more in configurability then previous ones.
