Are you supposed to remove this piece of plastic from the cpu backplate? It is adhered/glued onto it.

No, do not remove that piece of plastic!
That is an insulator that prevents any short circuits between the metal back plate and the bottom of the board. Very important to not remove it, even if it seems there is nothing to short out on the bottom of the board. Most CPU coolers that use back plates have a similar insulator or foam that serves the same purpose. |
