Hello,

i have a Asrock z170 Pro4 motherboard with Core i5 6400 cpu at the moment. I would like to upgrade  to Core i7 7700.
I need necessarily before the upgrade to i7 cpu a bios update?

You will need to update to the latest BIOS version, after that, just swap in the new CPU and you are done Wink

I ran my 7600k on my Z170 Pro4s on the latest BIOS without any issues at all so you shouldn't have any problems.

Clear CMOS and try again.

Make sure you leave the system powered for 10mins or so before powering off.

If using the clear CMOS jumper does not fix it then try this method:

Clear CMOS don't work! Confused
Buy today a new bios chip here

I will test and report it here..

I am sorry to hear that, bad flashes can happen sometimes Unhappy

We recommend using instant flash from inside the UEFI, it is less likely to break things than other methods.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
