I realize this isn't a high end setup, but I need to get these two working as a temporary rig.   I've tried the CPU in the MB but it won't post at all.   Lights and fans come on but nothing beyond that.   The case fan does "pulse" a couple of minutes after I try to get it to boot.   These two should be compatible, correct?    Any hints on what could be wrong?   Thanks.

You are using a dedicated GPU inserted into the PCIe slot, right?

A series have an iGPU but the 950 you have does not and req's a GPU card.

Correct. I had a separate GTX 1050 in the pcie slot.    If the motherboard was previously used for a Ryzen CPU would it recognize that a different CPU was inserted and automatically voltages and other parameters accordingly.   I'm concerned that I didn't clear CMOS when switched CPU's and may have toasted the Athlon.

Yes, Ryzen still works when it's inserted.

another quick thought ?

the apu's dont support fast ram

does anyone know if the athlon actually does ?

e.g. is your ram NOW incompatable ?

I have the latest bios and there's only a couple of athlon's that are listed, but from what I can tell it's supported.

My memory is DDR 2400 which is what it's supposed to support up to also.

As far as graphics it says right on the box that discrete graphics is required.    When it says APU they actually define that as Athlon Process Unit on the side of the box even though it doesn't have graphics capabilities.

If you change to a different CPU in any board, you MUST clear the BIOS and also remove the board's battery to clear the BIOS/CMOS memory. Have you ever done this before? Be sure to remove all power from the PC, and leave the battery out for at least five minutes.

An X4 950 should be compatible with your board and any UEFI/BIOS version, according the the CPU Support list.

The specs say nothing about memory speed with Athlon X4 processors, so I would keep it at 2133 for the first couple boots into Windows, and then try increasing it a little at a time.

Pulled the battery and jumped the cmos jumper for around 5-10 minutes and still no post.   Only the cpu and chasis fans but no beeps (yes, I have a speaker).   I'm thinking either it's incompatible or the cpu is toast.
