Samsung 960 EVO M.2 1TB Support for x399 Taichi?

I'm putting together a new build using an x399 Taichi board but i'm getting hung up on the fact that the Samsung 960 EVO 1TB is not listed on the official QVL.

My plan was to get a 960 EVO 250GB as my boot drive (this is listed on the QVL) and a 960 EVO 1TB as my media/project drive for video editing. Is there any risk of running into issues with the 960 EVO 1TB?

Nothing to worry about at all. I really wish they would not even have QVL lists for drives. Do we need a QVL list for SATA SSDs and HDDs? Of course not. All these drive QVL lists do is cause grief for people that don't understand the situation, and create fear for no reason.

The same is true for NVMe SSDs. If an NVMe SSD manufacture made a drive that needed special support from the UEFI/BIOS, they would be crazy. There are no NVMe SSDs or any type of drive that needs special support from a mother board. I cannot name one drive sold at retail that needs special support from a mother board.

I will ask, what version of Windows will you be using? If it is Windows 7, you have a problem when using it with an NVMe SSD.

parsec, I might pick a bone with you here.  The Intel Optane can be used as a normal drive in X399, but CANNOT be configured in a RAID.  A couple of users here would probably like to have known that before going through a lot of grief.  One returned the AMD MB and went to the dark side (Intel).  I don't have a suggestion how to communicate that and perhaps Intel needs to and maybe does.  Sorry for the nitpick and enjoy, John.

This will be a Windows 10 build, so everything should be smooth on that end.

As far as storage being listed on the QVL; with how performance-centric the newer storage mediums are, I can understand listing them to guarantee that users will get the bang that they are paying when used with the motherboard. I imagine RAM is listed for the much of the same reason.

Of course, when it's not listed at all, it makes you wonder if it will work at all! :)

Polyinstrumentalism, in the case of memory, that is very true - user on their own.  These Ryzen based systems are very sensitive to memory.  The AM4 ones have a number of AGSEA and BIOS changes that help a lot but TR is still a couple of versions behind.  If you buy really fast memory, you may need to run it at SPD speeds not XMP for a while.  Enjoy, John.
