Hello there
Just finished putting my new Asrock X99 Extreme6 machine together. Now I want to install Windows 7 from my dvd. I'm new to this whole UEFI thing, but I gather it's the way to go for OS installation. In the boot order I choose the UEFI - DVD Drive option. This should apparently make the subsequent Windows 7 installation appropriate for UEFI - or GPT rather than MBR (apparently). But when I do it the installation process seems to format the drive into 2 partitions rather than 3. 2 partitions is the old MBR, pre-UEFI way. Apparently if choosing the UEFI boot option - like I did - the installation process should format the drive into 3 partitions (GPT). Why isn't this happening with me? What am I missing? Thanks |

Hi. I am having a similar problem trying to install Windows 7 onto a newly GPT formatted hybrid drive. My particular issue is that when I select to boot with the UEFI version of the optical drive and then boot with the windows disk in the drive to start the installation, it starts up and recognises the installation disk, but won't load the files. I then get an error screen showing code 0xc0000185. The optical drive works fine under all other circumstances. Any ideas?

Delete all partitions/volumes on the disk that you want to install Windows 7 as UEFI on until that disk # shows as unallocated space.

Yep I did that, and it promptly reformatted my drive as MBR saying "Nah, you don't need those other two terabytes - you'll probably just store pirated copies of The Sullivans on there anyway."

If you got access to another computer put it in there and goto disk management then right click the disk and click convert to GPT, make sure you do the correct disk
If you got an ICY dock even better just plug it to a laptop via usb
