My suggestions in precise order:

- use DOS UEFI flash method
- do a CMOS clear after the UEFI flash (don't change anything after clearing)
- check if your FlareX are in the right slots
- boot Ubuntu (or a favorite distro) from USB
- check if there is a sound in Ubuntu
- fresh install of Win 10 1703 (not newer, newer are not too well for AMD for now)
- after the fresh install you SHOULD have SOME audio

If you don't have ANY audio/sound in Ubuntu or the fresh Win install after following my steps, I'd suggest you RMA the board.

Keep us posted!

P.S. Did you check if other device can drive your sound system, e.g. your phone or your laptop?

osten07, please use Instant Flash from the BIOS to update you BIOS.  First hit F9 then F10, then back into BIOS to update.  F9 and F10 after flash and re-boot is also a good idea.  We need more information on your system specifications.  Please post them in your signature as I have, including BIOS and W10 versions.  W10 version 1709 works just fine, I am running it on this machine and a X370 without problem.  If you are using the HD audio, make sure it is enabled in the front panel of the BIOS.  Using CDs with a build is not a good idea - almost always way down level.  Get most drivers from ASRock site but please get your Chip Set drivers here: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
Enjoy, John.

What spots should the flare x be in? I have 4 add lots. That's about all I'm capable of doing with my current knowledge. I'm worried about screwing something up.

What he said. Or to make it even more simple - CPU _ X _ X

_ - no RAM here
X - RAM goes here

Check the manual if still unsure.

EDIT: I'm yet to see a case where improper RAM placement disables the audio. What about the rest of the suggestions? Did you try them?

in my case the audio issues were down to windows/realtek

solved by messing around with the windows based realtek software/utility

it auto set the outputs incorrectly i had to manually switch outputs

I've never found any use of this utility. I just go with what 'Update Driver' in Windoze brings me.

I have hooked a few pairs of HIFI headphones and I've never found any difference between Windoze-delivered drivers and the ones from ASRock's site. That's why I'm keeping it tidy with smaller driver/utility footprint.

Thank you guys for all the help. I have been working like a dog this week, but I have been reading every reply. I am waiting on verizon to hook up my internet still at the new apartment..my mobile hotspot/tethering isn't allowing me to update my windows. My current OS is WIN 10 PRO Version 10.0.16299 Build 16299. I'll read how to download that specific WIN 1703 version.

The Flare x are in a2/b2

I'll check this BIOS that i currently have now using your guys instructions. Thanks!
