I'm looking at the x299 OC because its got five electrically wired x8 slot to the CPU. Such a rad board!

I've got some ECC RDIMMs (I know i9 don't support ECC, but I don't mind having it simply be disable) i wanted to use in conjunction with it and the 7980XE. While digging through the specs I noticed that the x299 OC is the only x299 board that ASRock sells without RDIMM support listed on the tin. Is that a clerical error? Or is that an OC related design choice? Does the board quietly/unofficially support RDIMM?

Thanks all!

Let me email the Techs and ask.

I doubt it though. Why? Yea, I read your 5 x8 slots but that still leave me asking why.

Registered mem is slower, so unless you have an actual need, which I highly doubt, why cripple that XE proc with it.

Hang tight.

Too, I just looked. Your 7980XE doesn't support ECC mem.

What's the P/N of the Kit/sticks of RDIMM you have there?

Hey!

Thanks for all your help! I'm not crazy worried about performance as much as I am worried about ram scalability. I'm not gaming or mining, but rather I am using this for deep learning/compute/blah blah blah. In that space 64gb, maybe 128GB if the density goes up and I re-buy a full kit doesn't leave much headroom.

I currently have 2 x 64gb 2400Mhz Samsung made/branded LRDIMMs (M393A8K40B21-CTC) and plan on doubling that moving forward.

As for ECC, while I know the i9 doesn't boot ECC, it would appear that the X299 OC (like many other boards) simply boots the RAM with ECC disabled:

1. CT8G4RFS4213 (4GA72D9RGV)
2. CT8G4RFS4213 (4GA12D9RGV)

Are both listed as supported by the x299 OC and are both Registered ECC modules (RDIMMs).
