I don't blame you, but I suspect something broke and I am trying to narrow it down. Can you go to another machine and try your USB stick? You can let it boot to the "Where do you want to install Windows" screen and quit (X in upper right) with no fear of corrupting the machine. Have you used the Rufus full format and/or check for bad blocks options? Enjoy, John.

paulneedshelp, I would suggest UEFI Default, which you have done. You could try Disabling CSM. It looks like to me something has broken - need to figure out what. Enjoy, John.

paulneedshelp, I did not have much hope for CSM. Please try Beta BIOS/UEFI 4.53 and let us hear. Enjoy, John.

Ok, the strange thing is that the PC boots from a Ubuntu installer without a problem but it can't boot from the Windows installer.

Windows Installer: tried USB and UEFI entry, at both the same happens: PC starts from USB, Windows logo appears, the loading indicator turns for one round and than the whole PC freezes.
Ubuntu Installer: PC starts from USB, Ubuntu installer appears and I could install Ubuntu. The Windows Installer was created with the Windows Media Creation tool. I installed with it yesterday Windows on my Notebook, so it is definitely working. I think I will contact the ASRock Support... EDIT: I tried the new Beta BIOS 4.53 but nothing changed.
