I just download BIOS update 7.40 Windows version for the Z170M Extreme4.  I opened the zip file and dragged the EXE onto my desktop (Windows 10).  Windows Defender immediately quarantined the EXE file with this message.

Quote Trojan: Win32/Cloxer.D!cl

Alert Level: Severe
Status: Quarantined
Date: 3/14/2018

Recommended action: Remove threat now.

Category: Trojan

This might be a false positive but I'm certainly not going to try running it until I'm sure!

Too, duh me. I'm baaaaaack ......

Never flash within Windows. That is asking for a bricked motherboard/BIOS.

Download and use the Instant Flash file.

We're big enough to build our own, we're big enough to use Instant Flash.Wink

ps: That isn't a false positive.

A Windows executable that can access a system at low levels will always flag AV.
